Would you be a have-a-go hero?

Millionaire banker Frank McGarahan was beaten to death by a violent mob when he intervened to save a couple from being assaulted. Would you step in if you witnessed an assault? Or do you think it’s too dangerous with knife and gun crime at such high levels? Would you be a have-a-go hero?

Another one, an X boss of mine, big man, good looking, worked out a lot. Was on a train home one evening. He told me that there was a pretty young girl sitting opposite him and some troll nearby had decided to pick on her with obscene comments and so on. My boss, all suited and booted, grabbed this idiot by his clothing and laid into him verbally, telling him to apologise to the young lady. He refused to do so and proceeded to tell my boss what a twit he was in his nice suit and so on. That was it, red rag to a bull. My boss laid into him. The lad did apologise just before boss man hurled him out of the doors and to the ground at the next station.
I am pretty sure idiot man will think twice next time.

A few years ago now, on my way home with my sister from a church youth club a gang of girls started taunting my sister with name calling then a bit of kicking and so on. I got really really angry, turned round and confronted them and told my sister to go an knock on somebodys door, anybodys and ask for help. The gang of about 10 surrounded me, grabbed me and pushed me to the ground. I heard one shout "get glass, get glass". They pinned me down, I could not move but from somewhere, I felt this massive strength - to this day do not know where it came from - I managed to push them all off me and run to the house my sister had called on. They invited us in, the police were called who said they could do nothing, then they let us call a neighbour near home who came and collected us (mum and dad were out).
If a family member were being threatened, I would not hesitate. It is tempting to jump in for others, sometimes instinctive, but I really dont fancy getting my head kicked in as a result. I would definitely call for help on a mobile or find a big strapping bloke to intervene.

A long time ago I had just came out of the army and was sitting indoors when I heard a commotion outside. I looked out and saw a young bobby having a rough time with two lads so I went to see if I could help. That was the worst thing I could have done. The cop jumped into his car and went leaving me to face some trouble luckily the lads didnt fancy their chances although they probably could have eaten me they sloped off ,which made me vow never to interfere in police business
