Now that the legal minimum age for purchasing tobacco has been raised from 16 to 18, will less young people take up smoking? Should the responsibility fall to retailers, or should it be illegal to smoke at 16? Have your say.
Im 18 and i still get asked for ID cos i don't look 18 but those who are over 6 ft and under 18 can get served beer aswell so it wont stop them at all. They should ask everyone for ID whether they look older or not it's better to be sure than break the law.
just found out my 15 yr old daughter is smoking, so i would welcome anything that would make it harder for her to get cigarettes.(both my husband and myself dont smoke) but i dont really think that it will stop any kid smoking as they get them from people who sell them from their house when they bring them home from holiday.
Of course it wont
How dumb the government are to think it could wave a little legistation at this and it would go away.
No not one bit.
Won't make a scrap of difference. Would you like to be a shop assistant confronted by a 6' youth asking for cigarettes and refusing. Unless there is someway of proving their age it will cause a lot of aggro. I suppose someone will reply and say this is a good reason for I.D.cards!!!!
