Will raised tobacco legal age stop young people smoking?

Now that the legal minimum age for purchasing tobacco has been raised from 16 to 18, will less young people take up smoking? Should the responsibility fall to retailers, or should it be illegal to smoke at 16? Have your say.

Kids will always smoke until smoking is no longer considered "hard".
I started at 10 because I thought it made me look hard. Now I'm hooked.
I can give up drinking for months but I can only give up smoking for a week at tops before I go mad.
Oh and adults will always buy kids tobacco so it doesn't matter what age limit is set.

By the middle of next year we will all be worried about how we are going to clothe and feed ourselves.
Arguments about smoking will become irrelevant. It is only because we have enjoyed so much affluence until recently that these arguments have happened. People in Africa don't argue about smoking. When businesses are shutting by the 100's next year just watch the change in priorities.

I don't think raising the age to 18 will stop many youngsters from smoking, but if it makes it harder for youngsters to obtain tobacco products, then I say bring it on. Talking of youngsters, I think thats where most effort should be placed, in making smoking seem unatractive to them. Leave us oldies alone, we will quit if we decide to, but basically we are a lost cause, concentrate on stopping youngsters taking up the habit, thats the way to go

I think they should let kids at age 16 or younger smoke. my reason for this is because many smokers or young kids smoke because it feels relaxing and i myself think it should be okay at this age i'm 14 and i smoke and same with all my other friends, there's nothing wrong with it. and yes we all have been through D.A.R.E but idc what happens because in the end we all are going to die. so i don't agree with age 18 because i get all my cigs from my friends and sometimes family and they don't have a problem with it. so rassing the age wont help kids all around have back up such as parents, friends. etc. so don't raise it they don't care.
