Eating, drinking, trying to read maps, inserting a cassette or CD, tuning a radio, arguing with passengers or other road users, playing loud music. These have all played a part in prosecutions against drivers. Now smoking is set to join the list. Should smoking and driving be banned? Is it dangerous or are we taking this all a step too far? Have your say.
What if your being smoked?,does this still count?
After 40 years of motoring experiences, driving well over 600,000 miles, in 14 different countries (more than the distance to the moon & back (250k to the moon)) but mostly in the uk… all my observations & experience tells me that… NO…it should not be banned !...... Smokers are much better, more relaxed, considerate drivers… They are far less arrogant, selfish, intolerant, less aggressive & less susceptible to tailgating & road rage.
YES
I'm a smoker, but I'm not going to say it should or shouldn't be allowed.
Personally I don't smoke while driving, as I dread to think what could happen if driving at a reasonably high speed and one drops a lit cigarette onto either ones' lap or the footwell of the car.
If it is too dangerous to hold a phone in your hand and drive, or food, then it MUST apply to smoking too. I have been a passenger in too many cars where the driver has accidentally dropped the cigarette they were smoking and panicked, taking their eyes off the road. It is also too close an environment for others not to escape the smoke. Do not say open the window because we all know smoke always heads towards the window of the Non smoker!!
