The waste you leave outside in your recycling bin may never actually reach a recycling plant, council bosses have admitted.
The Local Government Association has confirmed fears that the contractors who are paid to collect the refuse are not held accountable for what they do with it, and the council have no powers to force them into recycling it.
I recycle and compost so much that even though I have the smallest wheelie bin it would only be half full even if it wasn't emptied for a month.
If everbody made an effort like me it would save the council a lot of money, money that could be spent on something useful. Although refuse and recycling cost the council a lot of money, these cost are only a small part of what any counsil must pay for. For example my council pays £1miliom a year collecting and disposing of things dumped in the streets, parks and open spaces, that's not litter, it's fridges, washing machines etc, another £3.5 milion is spent on removeing abandoned cars. So while people are winging about recycling and looking for excuses not to bother, you along with those that flt tip, dump rubbish in public places and abandon your old cars etc are costing the rest of us a fortune in council tax.
there is to much waste but not much we can do about it not with what i being home from supermarkets
yes , it should lower council taxes but dosent . where does the money go ?
Up to a point I agree with it,a lot of so-called green initiatives are little more than an excuse for price inflation and stealth taxation. And if so much waste was not produced at the outset,we would not need to be worried about it as we are.Supermarkets and shops are the culprits here, and food producers.Cut needless packaging, and you,ll cut waste.
Yes. A lad i know told me it gets collected from the tip where people put the items in differant skips and then its collected and taken to another site where most of it is lumped together again. It lokks like its 'green' but they dont have the facilities to deal with it in all locations.
