From the end of 2009, cigarette packets sold in the UK will carry graphic picture warnings depicting the effects of smoking. Images will show damaged lungs and rotten teeth.
While scientists predict that the new warnings will result in up to 10,000 people quitting, pro-smoking campaigners say the move ‘victimises’ smokers.
Do you think the new warnings will help people to quit, or will people simply get used to them? Should the Government impose this sort of legislation, or is this a case of the nanny state? Have your say.
Even if you put a picture of that awful woman Heather Mills on each packet people will still smoke cigarettes.
Anyway, I have learned to remove a cigarette from the packet without looking.
only will power and determation will help people stop. all these patches, gum and inhalers personally are a waste of money. ive stopped this time (cold turkey) and will power alone. its now been 6months since ive had a cig and i could light up one now if i want to, but will power and determation keeps me from it. Ive used patches and gum in the past and found they dont work.
JUST TO SAY NO NO
Of course not.
only the total banning and sale of these cancer sticks will have an effect. Smokers are too addicted and selfish to bother about anybody but themselves to worry about mere photographs.
What might focus their minds a little is to make them pay for subsequent medical treatment and be sent to the back of the queue for such treatment.
never.

Will gruesome picture warnings stop people from smoking?
