From the end of 2009, cigarette packets sold in the UK will carry graphic picture warnings depicting the effects of smoking. Images will show damaged lungs and rotten teeth.
While scientists predict that the new warnings will result in up to 10,000 people quitting, pro-smoking campaigners say the move ‘victimises’ smokers.
Do you think the new warnings will help people to quit, or will people simply get used to them? Should the Government impose this sort of legislation, or is this a case of the nanny state? Have your say.
I want to stop smoking, but all the patronising adverts on TV, and people who waffle on about the damage it causes, annoy me so much i need a fag to calm down.
I know that there is no good reason to smoke, i know the damage to health that it does, but it is down to my will power alone to give up, all of the condescending and patronising c...p that is forced down my throat just annoys me and gives me an excuse to have another fag.
It is my fault that i started to smoke, and it is down to me alone to get the will power to give up, but it is very difficult, only someone who used to smoke can appreciate how difficult it is to break the habit.
some people have seen worse things than black lungs. Dying won't scare anyone 'cos we all have to die someday anyway. You could be someone who goes jogging everyday and eats nothing but veg, but you can still die. We're only human.
no it wont! if you want to smoke then you will. i stopped 2 years ago and the only reason was because i couldnt afford it. none of the adverts put me of because if you saw what damage food, drink does wood you stop eating or drinking?? i think not. its all about choice.
cause they already know what will happen and still dont stop smoking
they will visually see the damages of the body

Will gruesome picture warnings stop people from smoking?
