From the end of 2009, cigarette packets sold in the UK will carry graphic picture warnings depicting the effects of smoking. Images will show damaged lungs and rotten teeth.
While scientists predict that the new warnings will result in up to 10,000 people quitting, pro-smoking campaigners say the move ‘victimises’ smokers.
Do you think the new warnings will help people to quit, or will people simply get used to them? Should the Government impose this sort of legislation, or is this a case of the nanny state? Have your say.
Since words seem to be of no use, (can smokers read?) then perhaps the real pictures might make an impact.
YES , THEY REALLY ARE GENUINE.
Do you want bits of your body to look like these ???
Not a chance, and why should it? and don't forget all you smokers and none smokers the messages on the posters and packets are all being paid for by you, the cost isn't coming out of G.Browns pocket. Think about it.
Does this mean that they will put pictures of rotting livers on all bottles of booze? People DO actually know the damage that certain things cause, putting pictures on won't help at all. Maybe we could stretch things a little further and suggest politicians wear a sign round their necks saying "This person can seriously damage your lives"
Adverts on TV, in Newspapers, Magazines and Bill boards to name just a few. I don't think gruesome pictures will work because most ( but not all) smokers either think " Oh I won't get cancer " OR " I'll be ok if I get cancer, I will be able to beat it."
No it just makes me more depressed so i smoke even more.

Will gruesome picture warnings stop people from smoking?
