From the end of 2009, cigarette packets sold in the UK will carry graphic picture warnings depicting the effects of smoking. Images will show damaged lungs and rotten teeth.
While scientists predict that the new warnings will result in up to 10,000 people quitting, pro-smoking campaigners say the move ‘victimises’ smokers.
Do you think the new warnings will help people to quit, or will people simply get used to them? Should the Government impose this sort of legislation, or is this a case of the nanny state? Have your say.
when i smoked i ignored all the warnings. pictures of lungs and cancers i was ignorant to it all, i only gave up for a bet and ive never touched a cig again and that is 11 years in march best thing i ever did
That, and a hospital visit did it for me, as well as several people at work. We now have no smokers at work - 35 employees.
I smoked for over forty years. I think for about thirty of them I was trying to give it up. I stopped many time but always went back to it. I then one evening told my self that in the morning I would not smoke any more, I woke up next day and have not touched one, have not wanted one and will never have on again. I Belive certain people want you to bleive it is aditive as they do not want you to pack it up. the trouble is as it was for me. I loved my fags, To stop doing something you love doing is not will power, it's more like impossible.
im a smoker with heart and lung disease,if that does not make me stop nothing will, and ive tried every thing to do so.the one thing that some smokers cant buy is will power,if you could we would all pack up tomorrow.

Will gruesome picture warnings stop people from smoking?
