The National Health Service was founded in 1948 as the world’s first completely free health system as part of a drive to provide free benefits to all those in need. 60 years later, is the NHS living up to its original premise of being a world-leader in health care? Or is it failing British taxpayers with MRSA and poor cancer survival rates? Share your thoughts.

The NHS is fantastic - the Nurses, Doctors and Surgeons are the best in the world. There are exceptions obvioulsy but only a very small percentage. What givens the NHS problems is the development of Technologuy which was not there in 1947. If you were in the lower or even the middle class bracket the Health Sercive was not there for you. America are crying out for a NHS / similar service and guaranteed Obama wll improve their system.
People/patients are also a problem - the obese, smokers, drunkards, some migrants seeking cheap medical care, some asylum seekers, the whingers who enter A&E because they have a bad back gardening on Saturday plus others who use A & E as opposed to their Doctor. Try A & E late Saturday night! These scumbags (sorry) are draining the NHS resources.
Perhaps there should be 'contributions', or why not get the malingerers to pay for the majority of their Bills.
one other sector - those who jump off piers, get lost through stupidity in the mountains, go out in flimsy craft - they all end up being treated in Hospitals. Get them to pay 'fines' - what the hell it might get them to think twice! You have to be CRUEL to be KIND.
the NHS has failed
Attempts at privatisation have failed the NHS
