The National Health Service was founded in 1948 as the world’s first completely free health system as part of a drive to provide free benefits to all those in need. 60 years later, is the NHS living up to its original premise of being a world-leader in health care? Or is it failing British taxpayers with MRSA and poor cancer survival rates? Share your thoughts.

well T, I have already left and my contributions in the way of taxes is not small at all, as an employer of 5 people I paid quite a bit into the tax system.
My sister was knocked down by a hit and run driver and broke her leg, when I my wife and father in law visited her, there were no chair for him to sit on, at the time he was 78,and due to a stroke could not stand for any length of time. Being a very short bloke,he couldn't sit on the edge of the bed, so I went into the corridor where there where a number of nurses and asked for a chair and was told, we're on a break. all of them were sitting on chairs and all were over weight. they botched the repair of my sisters leg by the way and she is still crippled to this day.
Want more, my father, lay dying of a heart attack in Ashford hospital in middlesex and the when the Dr came round, he turned to the nurse and remarked this ones a goner soon and the the nurse and a bunch of students laughed, my dads last words to me was they laughed at me dying.
Several years ago,I tripped and fell down the stairs, broke 2 ribs, never felt such pain in all my life, when after waiting in A and E for 4 hours I desperatly asked a nurse for a painkiller,I was told, wait your turn. I left, went home and got some painkillers from a friend and let my ribs heal on their own.
My mother was a nurse, before there was a national health service and she would help anyone in pain or sick, no matter how they came to be sick, your wife wants to pick and choose who she helps.despite the fact that nurses these days are very well paid.
The NHS gets 100 billion pounds a year of tax payers money and they do a lousy job and I suppose you can afford to retire abroad on that.
Where ever you decide to live, please don't come to Italy, you aint welcome mate.
Arthur from Italy, People like YOU are the reason my nursing wife and I are leaving this country for a better life elsewhere, somewhere where no-one will accuse her of being lazy, never mind fat (which she 'aint). Everyone seems to want 1st class service from very small NI contributions here. Sorry to hear of your father in-law, but DonT blame the staff, blame the government and its cost - cutting outings. My wife had enough the day a relative came in and was told (politely) the visting hours. For this she was spat in the face by the Pakistani 60yr old woman. Its not just the NHS, its the uk as a whole, and the S* HIT that lives within.
Terry,I've paid my NI and other taxes for 50 years, are you telling me I have no right to treatment,in which case, give me my bloody money back.
My father inlaw, who is 86 fought in the war, paid his NI and last thursday felt ill and the Doctor can't or won't see him until the 24th of this month. The NHS is full of fat lazy doctors and nurses who are over paid and won't do what they are paid to do.Treat the sick, all equaly.
Go into a hospital here in Italy and you are treated like a human being, nurses smile and help you, you feel that you are importent to them.
I say give me my money back.
