60 years on: has the NHS failed?

The National Health Service was founded in 1948 as the world’s first completely free health system as part of a drive to provide free benefits to all those in need. 60 years later, is the NHS living up to its original premise of being a world-leader in health care? Or is it failing British taxpayers with MRSA and poor cancer survival rates? Share your thoughts.

people have different views on whether the NHS has failed. i think it has gone down hill alot because we are recruiting more people who dont know half of what they are doing to the patient/patients. most people arent being trained properly to learn about hygiene. you see visitiors go in n not use the alcoholic soap whilst visiting their family its both sides which is failing the NHS. people need to be made aware that these diseases are life threatning.

Did you see Panorama: NHS for Sale?
Makes you ashamed of what this country is becoming. Privatisation will mean the end of any real democracy. Everything is to be dictated by the greed of the country's enemies.

Are you from Scotland originally? It sure sounds like it. Chill out, man.
Oh, and don't talk rot about bringing back matrons: If you check YOUR history, Gazza, you will find that 'Modern matrons' were reintroduced in 2002, in name only. These were originally called Nursing Officers, but as 'Matrons' they have no authority whatsoever, over what they originally had; and are completely restricted by the P.C. brigade. Hence the sloppy standards that we see today. I'm not a lover of England, but they ARE very unfairly taxed, and i think that is the point that 'Al' was trying to say. Check your facts, Gary.
