The National Health Service was founded in 1948 as the world’s first completely free health system as part of a drive to provide free benefits to all those in need. 60 years later, is the NHS living up to its original premise of being a world-leader in health care? Or is it failing British taxpayers with MRSA and poor cancer survival rates? Share your thoughts.

Its failing but hasn't yet failed, it seems easy to me to sort it out. No one should be allowed treatment for a condition they have before they come to this country, (that includes ex-pats who come back for treatment, and all those with aids who arrive for treatment)
We should charge all foreign nationals for treatment unless there is a reciprocal agreement for british nationals in their home country.
All cosmetic treatments should be chargeable and we should find enough money in the kitty to help the people that really need it. (breast surgery or a nose job is not neccessary)
Prescription charges are going up all the time. It doesn't feel like we are benefiting from the NHS. People who have worked and paid stamp all their life shouldn't have to pay. Stop all the foreigners using our NHS. that's why in's in trouble!!
The nhs is in crisis they keep telling us. I appreciate the cost of everything nowadays. Why though should we pay with our dignity?
I agree with Reena. But the idea has been a wonderful thing. We are so lucky to have the NHS perhaps if we all try a bit harder (not just some of us) to do what is asked of us, instead of crying our woes, we would get somewhere , we will most definately sorely miss the NHS we must do everything to keep i t Those moaning minnies pull your fingers out and get to do something like volunteering to perhaps cleaning etc.,
Politcians meddling have ruined what was a decent idea. Incidentally the Scottish/Welsh clique ruling this county have struck. Prescription charges have been abandoned in Wales and will be in Scotland. Guess who's still going to have to pay.
