As many as 2,500 community Post Offices are set to close across the country, and the figure could rise to 6,500. Do you think the stamp of death for one of Britain’s best-loved institutions is drawing ever nearer? What, if anything, can be done to get the Post Office sorted?
New: Save our Post Offices special
it goes much much further than the post office- i am a post man in west yorkshire, the whole management system has changed.
when i was first trained for the job the people came first, there are so many older people living alone that rely on the postman for the smallest of issues. now-a-days its all money and figures.
we have recently been appointed a new dictator, oh sorry, line manager and our times have been cut so short that we barely have time to deliver the mail, nevermind lending a sympathetic ear to the older generations that a few moments of our time means so much.
royal mail as a whole could be doomed much more quickly than anybody could imagine, and lets face it, if not for the CWU (our union) it would have gone before now.
for the last few year we have been playing our part in improving efficiency, flexibillity and modernisation, but it seems that the constant lies from the top of royal mail mean we are constantly setting royal mail on a voyage of disaster.
here are just a few points from the CWU-
GOVERNMENT, their decision to introduce competition earlier than the rest of europe was a serious political misjudgement.
there are no benefits whatsoever to the public or small business regarding their approach to competition.
THE ROYAL MAIL HAS LonG BEEN A PUBLIC SERVICE AS HAVE THE POLICE AND THE FIRE SERVICE.
ROYAL MAIL, they constantly overstate their acheivements and blame everybodyelse for failure.
speak to your post man/woman. they will tell you life in royal mail is a rollercoaster ride. an endless cycle of major crisis followed by so called fantastic turnarounds. the actions of the business leaders and the way they present RMs finances demands closer scrutiny.
RM shows a lack of vision and innovation in the area of new products and services-they are preoccupied with managing decline.
scratch beneath the word MODERNISATIon and you will find that almost 3 years on from the governments finance package the board has made no significant investment in automation.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP.
call upon the government to open up and review the funding package with RM.
RM and the post office face a certain change for the worse as thing stand, unless the PUBLIC the employees (and we are pretty good at standing against dictatorship) and the CWU (billy hayes for primeminister) continue to take a stand against this regime.
as the advert says "its your post office" just remember to scour the internet and take the same stance as we have for years gone by.
not all is lost.
easy, get rid of the deadwood at the top, save a fortune and keep post offices open. e-bay is enough to keep the post office counters running!
Post Offices are part of the community. We need to have more community things not less. especially in rual areas

Until there is fair and open competition of course the post office is doomed. We keep getting told Royal Mail is losing business, the truth is that there is no choice because they have been told to give a certain percentage of their work to the competitoin. There is no level playing field it just bias against Royal Mail.
Unfortunately I do not believe those in power want to save the post office, either that or the total incompetence of senior management beggars belief.£30000000 bonus for losing £279000000 is quite good business if you can get it.
