The government has announced a radical rethink of the way we provide social care to the elderly. With funding in this area facing a possible £6billion shortfall, do you welcome the news? Where should the money come from to care for the older members of society?
bill from from over the hill
.How come you have heard that but no-one else has?
It USED to be every two years when they were free for everyone, but that was a long time ago.I just called up my local NHS executive, who never heard of any changes. In fact, the lady said they encouraged those entitled to free tests to have one as soon as possible if they began to have any problem with their glasses. And its for over 60s, not 65s.
I get a letter from the optician every year withy out fail, but I get my eyes tested overseas for free, as it is in most countries, and I get my glasses overseas as well, in Vision Express, for about 25% of what their stores here charge.
So, all those of you that go overseas for holidays or work, check if eye tests are free, and you may be surprised. Glasses are another rip off here, and most of the frames are made in China or Taiwan.
lot of old people fought for this country, and a lot of people worked for low wages and high taxes to get this country back on its feet.but the old are now forgoten.government to interested in giving help to foreigners.
we don`t do nowhere near enough to help the elderly , be it ensuring that they have enough food/meals , heating , mobility both inside and outside their homes and their general wellbeing....and it`s going to get worse . better diets , medicines , hospital care , operations breaking new ground everyday . how many people are not , now going to die from smoking related illnesses in the future? we know that this will mean an ever increasing elderly population , just as common sense told us that the current problem of too many people requiring social care was always looming . you can`t have large increases in the population (births/population booms) and expect them not to all get old at the same time. i`m a child of the babyboom 60`s so i`m also going to be part of the social care problem in the 2030`s , so i`ve given the gov`t plenty of time to get the funding requirements ready...but thats thinking ahead and this government don`t seem to do that....it`s been spend , spend , take some for ourselves (massive pay increases, pension bolstering) , donations to the european circus (lots of clowns there) and now the purse is empty...the solution is let in foreign workers to increase tax revenue (those that pay tax) and hopefully increase our exports to help fill the deficit that this government created . gold , hmm , why not sell a little of our reserves whilst the price is sky high , that would pay for the support of our elderly , oops , they already sold it , years ago , when the price was rock bottom......so now there`s only one way to get us out of this mess....tax tax tax and then we`ll tax the tax . we were actually in quite a good financial state when tony was elected......now the only people with a smile on their faces are the people who got us into our sad state of affairs....at least they`ve stopped raiding the pension funds , i hope . if we can`t look after our own population why are we still spending hundreds of millions of pounds on a war we can`t win...northern ireland all over again . waste of money...waste of life , spend it at home and do some good .
Majority of the elderly pay for their care as its means tested..... if you receive Disability Living Allowance (care allowance) or Attendance Allowance this is used to pay for the care, as that is what its paid to you for. You are then means tested on private income such as shares, private pensions, and savings. It would be far better to get rid of the highly paid admin at the top, saving the government thousands this could then be put back into society to pay for the care that people need!! Johnny from Yorkshire covered the rest of the savings that could make others lives far better. Charity should begin at home and look after the people who have contributed.
How can you welcome the news that the elderly are badley looked after? This government does not look after those who have contribute all thier lifes, it does not look after the military who are prepared to risk their lives to do their job! Yet from a public perception it appears they are prepared to bend over backwards to help foriegners who have contributed nothing! There is something weired about this present government. They consistantly give the British people the exact opposite of what they want! THEY ARE NOT on THE SAME PLANET....LET ALonE SAME COUTRY!
