Should the age of criminal responsibility be raised?

Under-14s should not be held responsible for their actions and should never be locked up in children’s homes or young offender institutions, according to The Prison Reform Trust. Their report calls for the criminal responsibility age to be raised from 10 to 14, claiming incarceration doesn't deter under-14s, since 75% of them reoffend within a year of release. Do you agree?

What is criminal responsibility - is this just a play on words. Does anyone really recognise it - legal jargon. All are responsible for their own actions as soon as they are born. A baby cries because it responses to a world that it disagrees with. Thats where it starts. Training from infancy by loving parents who are themselves responsible for their actions, thoughts and deeds - though I don't think there are many of them. We have an overpopulated world of irresponsible humans, most of who are not fit to live on this world. It has been said "The meek who are very few, are said to inherit the world" The sooner the better, though I may not be one of them.

They already think they are above the law - would it make any difference if the law changed?

no way. teenagers know what they are doing they are arogant in the fact that they know they cant be touched!!!!!! make their punishment be to serve in the army-hopefully it will help them to understand what life is really about and help them confront their fears............all leading to a better society.

We should weigh things up here - and I`m not being PC about this. There are fears about food shortages in the near future, both locally and worldwide. England has a surfeit of feckless, violent youth; both unlovable and untameable, they are a lost cause. Put the two together and you have the solution. If we were to "harvest" the youth of England for their meat, not only would we be able to control their numbers, allowing pensioners to freely wander the streets again, but we would have a ready supply of fresh meat for our plates. It could work.
