A 64-year-old man from Somerset has been served an ASBO and ordered to pay £2,500 in damages to his neighbours because his flock of 100 chickens and cockerels tormented them with 420 crows per hour.

To Bonny from Yorkshire...and all others who suffer the distress of ignorant abusive neighbours!! READ on,,sorry you seem to have a neighbour from hell living nextdoor to you; HERE IS THE SOLUTIon..find out if your local police force has regular p.a.c.t. meetings (police and communities together),if they do, go along with your diaries of incidents of noise /nuisance and show them to the officer managing the meeting, also show them to your local housing officer (use this person for council housing/ association complaints) and ask who is the person responsible for anti-social behaviour complaints and show them as well.It is not important if the offending tennant/owner causing the problems is a council occupier or a private renter or a private buyer they are ALL treated the same when it comes to anti-social,noise/nuisance behaviour. The other thing I found useful when I had an idiot living next door to me was to ask other residents if they can hear any noise from the offending person,I am sure you will find others will say they have heard this person swearing and shouting on perhaps many occasions but have not thought of reporting it to the police as it may seem too trivial, this needs to be reported and the police will issue a log number for each call of comlpaint,it is their duty of care to you as a paying customer, you can remain anonymous at all stages throughout the complaints proceedure. You may be offered mediation services, which I made use of in my situation,I would advise people at leat try this once, obviously if you did this you would meet face to face with your nemesis. Finally, our local p.a.c.t.meeting was held last night in Preston, for my area. We had a visiting senior police constable from Durham attending who was on a fact finding mission, with a view to starting p.a.c.t. meetings in 'his' city, most encouraging, these meetings do work and are a great support to those of us who have problems/nuisnaces like yours in our communities, take heart, there is something you can do to make a difference,we did and it actually works, good luck. People together can change things!!
