Its not the fact that the tories complete controlled the country. It the facts that the people of this country are sick and tired of paying for everything and being taxed three times for the same thing
petrol tax high to cover road duty.
if so why are we paying road tax. I was told recently that council tax covers roads. When will we be taxed once just for a change.

In support of 'pensioner from Southend', I wholeheartedly agree that local councils should be comprised of people who truly represent the constituents in their area; national party politics has no place in local body activities.

Every local authority area of the country has its own unique set of needs and priorities - those needs must be tackled by people with their hearts and minds aligned to the collective will of the electorate they stand for, not by those being constantly steered and directed by political agendas that have no LOCAL relevance.

You may regard this view as naive and idealistic but why should it be? Why should people who declare themselves as 'independant' candidates (with no political affiliation but a lot to offer at a LOCAL level) be nearly always regarded as light-weight and/or second-rate? There is no inherent logic in it but it does show how institutionalised the country has become.

once upon a time, the ward system stood for what it should do - a way to identify and utilize people within a community who would truly act on behalf of that community and LOCAL area generally. Now, it appears to be just another subset of the party politics juggernaut.

    WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!

The Tory party look even more likely to win the next general election. I saw on tv some young people saying that they are disillousioned with the present government, but I can remember the dreaded years of Tory Power. The three day week the poll tax inflation at 13%. Please do not let this happen again.
