I'm really annoyed at most of these comments. -"they should stay in school until they learn one of the biggest thing in life. RESPECT!!!!!!!""I've seen how they behave on the buses before"..."SOME CHAV SCUM KIDS ARE SO BACKWARD THEY SHOULD STAY IN SCHOOL UNTIL THEY ARE AT LEAST 45."
NOT ALL KIDS STAB OTHERS, SMOKE, DRINK AND ROB.SOme of you are voting 'Yes' because of useless minorities, and I mean -Minorities- but what about the other children? The ones like me who are part of the National Gifted And Talented youth? I don't do any of these horrid things.
"I think they should its not like they have any other major plans on the cards" - I do, I am aiming to be a vetinary surgeon. I can't be bothered to wait through A POINTLESS YEAR. Like Georgia said: " i'm getting a job as soon as i can. Considering everything in the economy is going up, i'm going to need to earn money as soon as possible."
Really, this is going to cause a shortage of workers, A bored Nation of tennagers and an angry me.

I stayed on at school to do my A-levels in 1971/72. Its a good idea to get as much education / training as possible because in the not-to-distant future there will be no unskilled paid jobs anyway.
I think the problem in this country is that children start school too EARLY. In the Scandanavian countries they don't start school 'til they are 7 years old and their educational system seems to be more effective than ours.

My father left at 14 as was the deal in those days he hated school.
He had had a good education he left school with a good level of english maths and all other bits of information, he laboured all his life working on the goods side for british rail. You were then graded at 11, children from the working class did not get the oportunity to take exams. I left at 15 again after being graded at 11,
The education system is altered so all have a chance. My children had the chance to leave at 16 or carry on. Now it seems the goverment is trying so my grandchildren leave at 17/18 IT DOSNT SAY MUCH FOR TODAYS EDUCATIon if the youths of today are not educated enough to take up skills in the working place at 16/17 But my father who kept a family of 8 children bought his house and became a manager left at 14. Same as myself.

The way I understand it is that children will be oblidged to stay in some form of education until the age of 17, not necessarily school, and it actually will increase to 18 soon. This is one of the best ideas yet as it will give children a much better future with a good idea of what the real world is all about. Children simply can't make decisions about their future at the age of 16. Gcse's are just a steppingstone for further education and should not be regarded as such a wonderful achievement. Maybe we won't have to 'import' professional people at the scale we curently have to due to lack of educated, professional people in the uk.

M from London...I bet YOU didn`t stay on `til you were seventeen - your comment makes no sense at all. Go to remedial lessons and learn to spell.
