Council tenants who keep up five years of 'good behaviour' should be rewarded with £50,000 to go towards buying their first home, according to a new Tory proposal.
Do you think this would be an effective incentive to keep anti-social behaviour down? Or do you think it would be too much carrot and not enough stick? Have your say.
yes its not just kids who are from broken homes or on benefits that cause problems, i look after my own own do my own repairs and treat it as i did when i ws a home owner, i have brought my son up alone for 20 years and he has never been allowed to run the streets, even when i was able to work. Mot of the anti social behaviour around here is caused thru kids whos parents are both at work and dont know what the kids are up to. Or Thatchers grandchildren, brought up by parents who have never ever worked and been on benefis all their lives, so the kids have same attitude that they are entitled to everything and they steal what they cant buy. So yes it is a double edge sword the question i have been a model tennant but i couldnt get a mortgage as i am disabled and not able to work. but this people who do keep there kids in order and are able to work yes give them a incentive. But then we have already lost so much social housing, with right to buy anyway.
hi mike from wales you seem to forget one thing you pay morgage and house one day yours.
council tenents pay and house is never theirs unless they apply to buy it.think 5 years not long enough 10 years then ok,reason being if person moves in has baby kids dont cause much trouble,10 years and kids will have been kept in toe growing up to be responible just might work.
but how about another idea give all families £1000 a year if kids keep out of trouble that way all benifit
Council Tenant from Kent says:
Your inference is that tenants on benefits create all the problems
load of rubbish

and as for the council "Council tenants do not need to bother with this process as the council does it all for them"
try getting the council round here to do anything
took 3 yrs to get the broken gutters done and when they did had scaffolding up for 6 months managed to break the drains when putting up the scaffolding a year on still having to live with the smell from the broken drains
couldnt watch television cause it knocked out the reception

I've yet to come across a well behaved council tennant!!!!!!!!!
Well I am one. As is my husband. We work to support our family, do not claim benefits and we pay our own way. Our children are all at least a year ahead of where they should be in their educations. The only reason that we have not brought our own home is because we cannot afford to. We do not have load music and parties, my children do not play out in the street and our house is tidy. So we do exist..honest!

Should well-behaved council tenants be rewarded with £50k?
