The introduction of 24-hour licensing laws has failed to reduce booze-fuelled violence on the streets of Britain, according to a review by the Local Government Association. The report goes on to claim that council tax payers are footing the bill for the £100 million in costs that the new laws have generated.
Do you think that the new laws have helped to create a new continental-style cafe culture in the UK, or are alcohol-related violence and binge drinking as big a problem as ever? How have later drinking hours affected your town?
. no late pubs round here, not many closed either. maybe working in our area all the doleites go the legion anyway. or the supermarkets. and no 24hr licensing will never work.
we have a late shop that sells alcohol til bout 3 and sometimes 4 in the morning and the amount of young people out til that time is disgusting their ages range from 11 to 16 yr olds. where are their parents at this time of night. some do not give a s**t. so i think the parents should take 50% of the blame aswell. put back the original licensing laws.
The short answer is no. The government created the problem it was another way of raising taxes so this government isn’t going to do anything to alter things.
ones again government greed and the breweries they are doing very well thank you .
24 hour licensing was never meant to reduce binge drinking, it was meant to spread chucking out time onLY.
only a change in culture will reduce binge drinking and that will take a long time.
This is a step in the right direction, nothing is going to be a quick fix, stop expecting the government to fix all of societies problems, that starts at home, accept your responsibilities for a change and stop winging.
no we should go back to early closeing times there are to many drunks around and to many fights
