Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn, who plays Vera Duckworth, is quitting the soap after 34 years due to ill health. She has been battling the lung disease emphysema for over two years and is reportedly too sick to continue filming. Since the Duckworths first moved into the street in 1974, Liz Dawn has been delighting TV audiences with her bolshy antics as Vera. Leave your tributes and share your fondest memories here.

    Thanks Vera for some cracking acting. The comedy scenes with you and Jack plus others were priceless. As I am mainly housebound you and Jack entertained me royally. As for the poignant scenes you really put your heart and soul into it.
    Enjoy your retirement chuck you have earned it. I only hope that now you are taking things a lot easier that you keep in better health!
