Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn, who plays Vera Duckworth, is quitting the soap after 34 years due to ill health. She has been battling the lung disease emphysema for over two years and is reportedly too sick to continue filming. Thanks Vera for some cracking acting. The comedy scenes with you and Jack plus others were priceless. As I am mainly housebound you and Jack entertained me royally. As for the poignant scenes you really put your heart and soul into it.
Enjoy your retirement chuck you have earned it. I only hope that now you are taking things a lot easier that you keep in better health!

In Canada we are months behind in the story lines-but am so sad to hear that Vera is ill and leaving the show.I love the show and have been watching it for years so do keep some of the older characters(they are unique)

I realy must apologise for my first post didnt know that real Liz Dawn was ill, case of I opend my gob before I got my brain into gear , all I can say is sorryif that means anything, I know Liz what you are going through going through, my wife died june last year from same symptom, emphysema, she battled with it for last twenty odd years,last 10years she had an oxygen mask 18 hrs a day, SMOKING RELATED, it is like old age disease, it can not be beaten. hope every one and Liz knows I was refiring to coranation st on itv
