Without a doubt Dallas was the greatest soap ever, a winning combination of power and wealth, passion and plotting. Larry Hagman gave an outstanding performance as JR - he was a complex character, not just a black and white villain - but there were also strong performances from Patrick Duffy as Bobby, the 'good' brother, Victoria Principal as his wife Pam and Barbara bel Geddes as matriarch Ellie. No soap before or since has matched it.
