Two British women have been arrested after a drunken rampage 30,00ft up in the air ended with one of them attempting to open the cabin door, screaming: “I want some fresh air!” In the same weekend, the mayor of Faliraki was celebrating the absence of British holidaymakers at the Greek holiday resort. The Guardian quoted him as saying: “There are far fewer Britons, which means no rapes, no accidents, no drunken debauchery, no going on the rampage. I'm so relieved.”
Are the Brits really the worst behaved when abroad? What compels us to get so drunk and behave so badly? Share your thoughts.
In many other nations, children are brought up to think that it is shameful to be drunk in public. In the uk, 'getting legless ' has become part of our culture. But it isn't confined to our youth. Groups of boorish (usually drunk) middle aged (and usually overweight) British men disgrace us in capitals around the world (such as Manila and Bangkok) as they trawl for sex whilst behaving like own the place. How can we expect more from our children when their parents don't even know how to behave?
It's not too many years ago since I was young, went abroad on holiday and sometimes drank too much. A lot of us did, but back then not many felt the need to get absolutely hammered - and on the whole people didn't get into fights, strip off in the street, have sex with just anybody or wreck hotel rooms "for a laugh". Nowadays lots of young people see a night out as drinking to the point of losing all control and not just on holiday, either. Every Friday you can hear young people on the bus etc announcing that they're going to get totally bladdered that night. When they're abroad, that type let rip even more than they do at home - and there are a lot of them, so they get noticed. Most other nationalities don't feel the need to drink themselves unconscious. True, Scandinavians often drink too much, due to semi-prohibition in their own countries and the high price of alcohol, but most of them pass out peacefully in the process. Sad to say, it's young Brits who are the barbarians these days - and they think they're doing something clever.
Why pick on Middlesborough as an example of the worst kind of behaviour that has become part of almost EVERY British town and city centre on a Saturday night ?
I like a few drinks and a good time - but British behaviour - most often young people, especailly at popular resorts - makes me ashamed to be British.
Come on Degsy, where's your answer to that one my boy.

Do Brits behave worse abroad than other nationalities?
