   only once was I upgraded and that was without asking!
   I flew from Hong Kong to Dubai where I had to change for London.I was flying with Emirates.At Hong Kong at the check in people in front of me were told "The Plane is Full". Then my turn came, I was upgraded to Business Class to Dubai.I don't know what I did to deserve it,but it was nice!

   I manageed to get and upgrade by completely breaking down at the check in. I cryed and begged and then took of all my clothes, unfortunately the upgrade was to the local Police station.

   I have been upgraded about 6 times on long haul flights. on a number of different airines including Thai, BA, Etihad, Qatar and Singapore.
   I am a member of Thai, Etihad and Singapore FF propgrams but I have never asked for an upgrade. Nor would I.
   
   Little people like that piss me off.
