Offer your seat to a nagging late arrival who is trying to hustle a hostess and you are sure for an upgrade.
Be really tall and ask for the extra legroom seats to allow sufficient room for your 36" legs
It is possible if u know a friend or u are part of a family that works for airline staff. Airline staff get a J priority meaning IF there is ANY other seat in either Economy Plus J class or First you will be upgraded.
Just know a airline staff!
My wife is disabled so she arrives at the check in desk in a wheelchair. on a flight from somewhere to Heathrow via Chicago the plane was late getting in to OHare and there were only two seats left, one at the front and one at the back. "That's no good" I said, "My wife is disabled, we have to be together. If we can't be together we're not flying!" After a long wait and with about 3 minutes to spare we were given two seats in Business. Going through Immigration and Customs is that much easier as well, at both ends!
Not sure I would want to be upgraded on one of these new-fangled flying machines. If there is a crash, the pointy end generally tends to hit first.
