The big green travel debate

The big green travel debate

The debate over the environmental effects of air travel is raging more than ever. Fresh taxes on flights are a recent measure in the UK, while some travellers volunteer to pay a fee to offset their "carbon footprint" each time they fly. Is this all a bandwagon that's got out of hand? Or are you one of the many who are deeply concerned about the damage that travel is doing to the environment? Share your views. I don't really think it matters what you all think. You may believe that it is all to do with taxes, keeping the working class down, the Amazon rainforests, cow farts, the greens, the pinks or the blues. What is really the most important fact here is that we have no control over the outcome of all of this. At the end of the day we are at the mercy of Mother Nature. And in comparison to her, we are infinitely miniscule.
The earth will do what it can to sustain itself. If that just happens to let us to live at the same time, then that is fine. But if it involves out demise, then I think we can rest assured that we will come off second best in the contest.
one day quite soon, the oil will run out because we are consuming it faster than it can be made - fact!
When that happens, unless we develop other means of renewable power we will be back to the horse and the sail. Yes I know there are conspiracy theorists around the place who say that Shell or BP own the patents to this or that. Well, let's wait and see; they may well do so. But there is one thing for sure - no one owns the patents to all of the products that are derived from oil. Plastics, for example, come from petroleum.
When the oil runs out we'll have to go back to making plastic from gutta-percha, shellac, and the horns of animals like they used to during the last century. Do you really think that there will be enough trees to produce a sufficient supply of gutta-percha bearing in mind that we can’t cut them down quick enough now? Enough beetles to supply us with shellac? And we're buggered for the animal horn option. I am reliably informed that cows fart every 90 seconds and so breeding enough animals to make plastics will be counter productive in the emissions stakes. And that is just one example.
I've really got to say that you people make me laugh and cry all at the same time. You've got Johnny from Yorkshire with his middle class inferiority complex and his greeniephobia. mike from bristol seeing it all as a way to get his money. sandra from bristol who is only interested in how she is going to ‘get back to her roots' and ger off it from yorks who doesn't seem to be aware that the Amazon rainforests are STILL being destroyed at the rate of 10 sq miles per day. Just cause it ain’t in the news don’t mean it ain’t happening. Hey 'Ger Off It' - how would you like your consultant to tell you that your lungs are being reduced in their ability to keep you alive by 1% of 1% every month? And soon you won’t be able to breath at all.
The next time you see your child, your grandchild or just any child, ask yourself - what heap of crap are we ignorant, stupid, doubtful or just plain uncaring bunch of tossers leaving to them? That is what is really important in all of this.
