The day the music died

Dear British Public - I've got a good mind to come round to your house and put your mobile phone on a shelf you can't reach, as punishment for this weekend's X Factor result. Ooh, I am cross!

Don't mind me really, I'm just reeling from last night's result. After all, Rachel served up a perfect performance. So can somebody please explain why she ended up in the bottom two for the third time? Were casual viewers confused and frightened by her vast array of Mop Top Hair Shop hairpieces? Didn't she shriek hysterically enough after her performance?

Or did everybody genuinely think that Kermit's nephew doing I Kissed a Girl in the style of Halfway Up The Stairs was more enjoyable? It certainly wasn't more in tune.

Sadly, the latter appears to be the case. Never mind that Lloyd will be lucky to get paid for singing carols come December 2010, sore throat or not - I fear that this year's Yoghurt Quigg will be in it to the end.

Somebody else who didn't deserve to go through on Sunday night was the delicate flower with the eyes of Bambi, and the gob of one of those giant worms from Tremors. Danyl's I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing – the 138th version clocked up on the X Factor – was shockingly off-key. And for somebody with such an enormous cake-hole, he doesn't half sound like he's singing through his nose.

But it wasn't just one long Strepsils ad. Ickle Joseph gave us yet another fantastic performance, and now Rachel has gone back to clown college I'll be voting for him. Jamie and Stacey, meanwhile, did a fine job of being heard over Cheryl's outfit.

This doesn't mean that any of them will win, mind you. Not now that Jedward are being hailed in certain (largely insane) quarters as the greatest entertainers since Morecambe and Wise.

Still, it's a free country, and we can vote for who we like. But one thing is guaranteed: whatever the final result, we'll get the Christmas number one we deserve.

The only reason that the twins lasted was Simon changing the rules and not voting for the best singer but an act which he had previouly called a waste off time

I'm surprised that there's still people posting on here who believe that acts on Simon Bowels show get through..or not..on the public vote, the public vote is one big fiddle and is only there to make money and has no bearing whatsoever on who gets through,i personally do not believe that the British public are stupid enough to KEEP voting those two through...i think Simon Bowel has now taken a step too far on the greed front and revealed the show as one big fraud and i can't wait to NOT watch it anymore and i sincerely hope that everyone on these pages who say they're not going to watch it anymore, don't watch it...i have never seen such blatant manipulation in my life as goes on on the X Factor

my daughter & i are so disappointed how the judges are allowing this once great show to go from bad to worse. We feel so bad for allthe young talent that has gone to waste.Come on all you talent spotting judges get your act together & give the veivers what they want & deserve.
