The EU has given up its plan to force Britain to go metric. Britons can carry on using imperial measurements such as pints, pounds and miles. Is this a victory for British tradition or is it time the country conformed with Europe? With imperial measurements abandoned in school lessons decades ago is a metric Britain inevitable? Have your say.
What on earth is this world coming to We've changed our system once already in the last fourty years why change again they can get stuffed I would like to stay an Island with our own things thankyou very much.
Iv been brought up with Metric units. Whenever mathematics, or other manual/automated systems come into use, its also metric, The older generation of Imperial units should be phased out, or we'll end up with both. The uk should try and go with metric, not the EU.

Just who in the devil does the EU think it is in any case, like some thief in the night it tried to steal the imperial form of measurement from us, and now it says we can have it back, what deal has been done behind closed doors by brown and co to achieve this, the EU treaty/constitution is lurking over us like some impending disaster is about to take place so watch out.
Karen, a lot of people in this country have had to learn both systems. You mention the school curriculum, it's true that kids have to learn IT etc., but they don't appear to do much music, sewing, home economics, typing, and so forth. Obviously, these things have been superceded and replaced by new technology.
Then again, when I went to school it was 9am to 4pm and it would be more difficult to fit everything in to a shorter working day!
we went decimal it was complained about but no one wants to switch back the metric system simply makes more sense it is easier to count in tens than twelves i was never taught imperial at all at school i can cook imperial but thats only because some og the recipe books i use are 50 years old and even those have the conversions put in the margins by me i dont think its a big deal its something we should have done when we went decimal at the end of the day its a dead system not a british institution worth protecting now the EU saying we cant send murderers back to there home country because it violates there civil rights that is something worth protesting about get a bit of perspective people
