The EU has given up its plan to force Britain to go metric. Britons can carry on using imperial measurements such as pints, pounds and miles. Is this a victory for British tradition or is it time the country conformed with Europe? With imperial measurements abandoned in school lessons decades ago is a metric Britain inevitable? Have your say.

Please yourself what YOU do. The rest of us can now make up our own minds because the EU realises they cannot dictate to Brits!
so lets all speak French then, I got slapped by teacher if I got my imperial measurements wrong 16oz - 1lb, 14lbs -1 stone, 8st-1cw, 20cw-1 ton, if I have to now learn metric I think I will have to bring my school to court for brainwashing me with imperial measurements, metric just does not rhyme the same, not neat enough, but I do have a problem with the word 'Imperial'
no if's or buts, go metric now!
This is a victory for common sence.
Those who wish to continue to use imperial measures should NEVER have been classed as criminals for doing so. Sending people to prison for doing so did more to get peoples backs up than anything else.
Oh, now try buying a car who's speedo is only in kph, thats ilegal too.
Those who want to use the imperial measurements, let them do so. Those who want to use the metric measuerments let them do so.
Those of us in our early 30's will probably still switch between the two until we die, as we were brought up with both.
As the country underwent decimilisation in the early 1970's it would be strange to teach younger generations the imperial measurements over the metric system, but they should be made aware of the imperial measurements as they will encounter both measurements in the future and they will at least know what other people are talking about.
