When the 4th Earl of Sandwich discovered that the delights of bread and meat would sustain him through lengthy gambling sessions, or so one of the many stories surrounding the birth of the sandwich goes, who would have thought that over 250 years later, armies of lunching Brits would still be munching their way through millions of the things every day.
But are you a crayfish and rocket or corned beef and brown sauce person? Do you have a particularly weird and wonderful recipe for the perfect butty? Or do you ditch the sandwich in preference to another lunch time vice? Have your say.
Best so far is a beer and steak pie from Rothbury Bakers, in the Coquetdale Valley.
Full of steak and taste, not just a smear of brown gravy soaked into the pastry.
15 Year old, My crazy little ones loved the marshmellow and syrup sandwichs, I made them all brush their teeth after. I will try some of these other fillings on here and see if my tastbuds take a fancy to them.
I LIKE TO FEED MY TUMMY MANY LOVELY LUNCHS. BUT, IF I HAVE TO CHOOSE ONLY ONE IT GOT TO BE A DOUBLE GLOUCESTER CHEESE WITH RED LEICESTER CHEESE WITH ENGLISH MATURE CHEESE ON SEEDED BREAD. I LIKE TO HAVE MARMITE WITH MAYONNAISE IN THE SEEDED BREAD WITH A NICE RED APPLE SLICED INSIDE. NOW THIS IS ONE HAPPY TUMMY AFTER.
this is a quality buttie, brown seeded bread milano salami, feta cheese sliced on top ,sundried tomato paste spread on top and sliced red onion and dont forget the black pepper.a bit posh but very tasty.
I love a ready salted crisp sandwich or a ketchup sandwich but my favourite has to be Spam and garlic
