For most of us, the hour's break in the middle of the day passes in a whirlwind of grabbing a bite to eat, maybe catching up with a few household chores like paying a bill or nipping down to the post office. But there are plenty of things that we could do in an hour, if only we could find a little inspiration. So, what do you do that you think other Virgin Media customers might find enjoyable? Are you lucky enough to work near a museum or park, do you hit the gym or pound the pavement? Have your say.
Unions are not permitted in my work if you talk union you get sack
One thing is clear to most people that although they find many of the current trade union leadership to be a bunch of wet bags who care only about their own pockets and lifestyles. The trade unions as compared to New Labour are still democratic organisations. If the leadership is not representing their members get rid of them. You have no power trying to act alone, as you are suggesting.
I really think you need to update your self about the history of the NUM and how compared to most other union leaders, Arthur Scargill was a giant of a man. Mistakes might have been made, but in terms of struggling for the mining communities and fighting against the vicious attacks on the workers I have yet to see another union leader that even comes close having his ability to understand the situation and put words into action.
Maybe you should get your nose out of the Murdoch rags and eat your lunch with some dignity.
In reply to Bosses from Petruscab.
If having to flog a product that is written to death in mountains of literature and then charge in excess of £150 per year to an individual who makes probably less than half of the salary than that of the union bosses is in short daylight robbery.
Politicians work the same way. Promise all, deliver little and retire themselves off at an early age with a great pension and no financial worries!
As for selling my workmates down the river, sorry matey, the vast majority have implied they'd sooner give me their monthly subs as thy'd get more results if the bosses were ever around to defend their corner!
If there's ever an icon of union democracy for the working man just look at Arthur Scargill's poor retirement existence. I bet there's a few ex miners out there that wouldn't mind being a couple of quid behind him.
Scargill is just the tip of the union leaders iceberg. Unions Delivering Results to there members.. My A*se!!!
Clare from Newcastle sounds just like the type of person who would sell all her workmates down the river. You might be happy to cram down your lunch and take your annual leave withour thinking about the fact that you would not have even those meagre entitlements if it was not for workers organising through their unions to fight for them.
Well, the unpaid half hour is spent cramming down a lunch, and reading the paper to avoid the annoying Union Reps harassing you to join their fight or the "right on" Give As You Earn brigade hassling to spend even more time at your desk to give it away.
P.S Union reps learn. It's a break, so leave us alone. As they're aware at my workplace now..
I have never and will never pay anyone to "fight my battles" the day I do is the day I'll be too old to work and by then I'm sure my family will be only too happy to help (and not for financial gain!)
I so love my 30 minutes peace.
