For most of us, the hour's break in the middle of the day passes in a whirlwind of grabbing a bite to eat, maybe catching up with a few household chores like paying a bill or nipping down to the post office. But there are plenty of things that we could do in an hour, if only we could find a little inspiration. So, what do you do that you think other Virgin Media customers might find enjoyable? Are you lucky enough to work near a museum or park, do you hit the gym or pound the pavement? Have your say.
I teach and we've just gone over to 2 breaks (1=15 mins, 1=40 mins). Quite often, because of the staggered timetable I have contact time from 8.30 to 1.45. What do I do in the little down time between 1.45 and last lesson?
Work.
when I was working day shifts I wasn't entitled to a lunch break - even though i walked to work directly after the school run, picked up some 'emergency' shopping for my family, worked a 4.5 hour shift, then walked straight back for school pickup before going home again. sometimes I picked up a pasty on the way out of town, sometimes I just didn't bother, sometimes I had a chocolate bar to keep up my energy levels or if I'd remembered I may have had a cereal bar or banana in my handbag to scoff while making a cup of coffee out back! when I worked full time I used to best enjoy walking out on my own and either sitting in the park or by the canal or just walking where I could be on my own and find some peace and quiet.....
Moan,moan and moan.
Clare from Newcastle says:
*Why can't union bosses take on the job for their previous salary/wage because the passion and not the money is the driving force?*
I wholeheartedly agree with this point Claire and I would also include politicians.
Almost all of them get bought off with cushy salaries and perks. They do not represent workers because they are so out of touch with the reality of life for the majority of us.
Most of the trade union leaders are in the pockets of the employers; making agreements with management and not consulting with the members. They then wonder why they can not recruit. They will only attract members when they prove that they can fight to represent the interests of their members, not the bosses.
As I read my free metro paper for the sport in my UNPAID 30minute break I take a moment of MY time to thank the lord for wonderful union bosses who lord it up for the working man NOT!! It's not really a lunch after all. Depending on the shift pattern, it's either lunch, dinner or supper (time wise) and this over a 7 day variable roster week! I'm sure union bosses "man their posts" with equal upheavel to domestic balance. Mon-Fri 9-5 if you're lucky, with all the perks that ensure a nice early retirement and a cushy number!
Is this not a million miles from what unions are supposedly campaining against; the companies getting rich at the expense of their workforce? Why can't union bosses take on the job for their previous salary/wage because the passion and not the money is the driving force? After all, it's not like they're ever gonna get their hands dirty again, or have a life (and body clock)that have to constantly adapt.
The distance between workers and unions ideals are widening. Would unions get involved for members against Child Support Agency taking money direct from wages??
