Catherine Tate landed the role of Doctor Who's new companion, reprising her role as Donna from the 2006 Christmas special in the new BBC series. Meanwhile, Freema Agyeman, who played the Doctor's existing companion Martha Jones, only gets to return mid-series. Has Freema been snubbed in favour of Catherine? Who is the better companion for the Doctor?
I thought Freema was excellent but still mourn the loss of Chris Eccleston, although I do like David Tennant. I thought Catherine Tate was awful in the Xmas episode but can only hope she will improve if she is in it for the whole of the series- or get killed off quickly. The revival has been so successful and it would be a pity for it to go downhill now.
spencer u certainly know your stuff mate
Yeah Billie Piper was realllllly good but she LEFT TO DO OTHER THINGS , so its kind of up 2 her to come back and i thought Freema was good , its a shme she isnt gunna be in the Xmas special and as for catherine tate love her in her OWN show , The 2006 Xmas special was ok'ish' but as a full tiem assitant she'll have to prove herself more than freema did , does anmyone else wish that christopher ecclestone did a Xmas special just to see if he was any good @ it!?
Ms Tate just doesn't do it for me, perhaps it was a bad script, but I suspect it is difficalt for people to imagine her as anything ohter than a Billie Piper was good, and so was Freema, however hats off, the the long overdue relaunch of the saviour of the universe, has been outstanding, just hate it only running for a few months at a time. Where are the Yettie and what about the guardian of the Universe who was going to destroy the Dr in the keys of destiny, causing the Dr to put a radomiser in the TARDIS so even he didn't know where he was going to be?
I can't help thinking Doctor Who will go down-hill rapidly when Catherine Tate takes over. I've watched the show since its inception with the Doctor's "Grand-daughter" Susan(It's remiss of me, but I can't remember the actress' name) and Peter Purvis (there was also another actress, I think she and Purvis were supposedly Susan's teachers). The Doctor was played by William Hartnell and they visited a world where the inhabitants had a fear of fire. The next episode (each episode was in four parts over 4 consecutive weeks) was the first one with the daleks - in their city on Skaro.
Over the years, there have been some brilliant doctors and assistants, and there have been some not so good. Billie Piper and Frema Agyeman are up there with the finest, whilst I suspect Catherine Tate will be down the bottom with the likes of Bonnie Langford.
