Newcastle silent on Keegan

Newcastle remained silent in the face of vociferous fans' protests this afternoon as speculation continued that manager Kevin Keegan is leaving the club.

Angry supporters gathered at St James' Park and chants of "sack the board" were repeated as the Toon Army voiced their dissatisfaction at reports Keegan was set to leave or be sacked less than eight months after his high-profile return to Tyneside.

Media were forced by security guards to leave the stadium grounds as the club declined to comment on reports of Keegan's exit, and while fans were also seemingly ushered away, they were soon permitted to reconvene around the main stadium entrance.

Keegan's apparently imminent exit is thought to be down to the club's transfer policy and the level of influence he has been afforded as manager, with Dennis Wise operating as director of football since being brought in by owner Mike Ashley last season.

well keegans gone get over it lads but alan shearer is not the answer he's got no experience he wasn't even a very footballer but for some reason he's a super star up there. he'll end up like alan hanson a settee manager critising others when he aint got the guts to do the job himself. he scared of failing ask him if you don't believe me. the only time he'll take the job is when somebody else has sorted the mess out and newcastle have an owner like man city have got and he can buy success

I'm not a Newcastle fan but I think it's a real shame that Kevin has stepped down. I think he's a decent honourable guy, who stands by his principles. He didn't leave England because he was scared off the job. he did it cos he recognised he didn't know enough about managing at that level. As an ex player and fan himself he was man enough to say he wasn't good enough. Most people like McClaren would hang on with bloody finger nails until they were pushed. No matter how humiliating the performances got.
I'm a Leeds fan, but I loved watching Newcastle when Kevin was manager. I was really looking forward to seeing how they'd progress this season. I can't believe that after such a positive start, the board would have let him go. Especially after the turmoil of last season. I offer my heartfelt condolences to all Newcastle fans. As a Leeds fan I can really empathise. I think with tme and finances Kevin would have brought success. I think it's a loss to all sports lovers that he wasn't given the chance.

Good points from 'Jay' & 'Arthur'...There IS a basic flaw in Keegan's personality & work ethic...He tends to 'Do one' if things aren't going his way.
