Newcastle silent on Keegan

Newcastle remained silent in the face of vociferous fans' protests this afternoon as speculation continued that manager Kevin Keegan is leaving the club.

Angry supporters gathered at St James' Park and chants of "sack the board" were repeated as the Toon Army voiced their dissatisfaction at reports Keegan was set to leave or be sacked less than eight months after his high-profile return to Tyneside.

Media were forced by security guards to leave the stadium grounds as the club declined to comment on reports of Keegan's exit, and while fans were also seemingly ushered away, they were soon permitted to reconvene around the main stadium entrance.

Keegan's apparently imminent exit is thought to be down to the club's transfer policy and the level of influence he has been afforded as manager, with Dennis Wise operating as director of football since being brought in by owner Mike Ashley last season.

My son and I have been long supporters of the Toon Army and and are sad to see Kevin leave. He has in our opinion been the best manager in a long time. He deserves to be given full control of selecting players and firing them - so if he cannot, then I do see why he has left. Why did he not have a say when Milner was sold - to sell one of your best players is not what Kevin would have done, but in the last few months that is what has happened to the team. on a positive note, Newcastle needs Kevin or someone like him to fight for NUFC otherwise they will continue to be a middle of the road team in the Premier Division

They've had more than enough bites of the cherry. Kegan was pronounced as the saviour 9 months ago, in what can only be described as self-imposed euphoria by both fans and media. He let them down 10 years ago so why put your hopes into a man who can't control his emotions and has a record of not staying the course?
The setup at the club is one of self interest by the board and little or no understanding of the management of football staff or running a club. They might be highly skilled businessmen but football is a diffent animal. A basic restructuring and change in philosphy is what is needed and then perhaps the club can move forward in what can only be described as the highest level of volatile circumstance.

KK was exactly right to resign (but it's a pity he had to disadvantage himself to make his justifiable point). If you are appointed to do a job the Directors, whomssoever they may be, should not interfere with your performance. The upshot of such interference would be that if (and when) things go wrong KK would get the blame

When will we realise that Capello has no choice of players....we have just ordinary footballers and he is limited to the best of a bad bunch, hence he picks the same playes as Eriksonn and McClaren. He could promote some U21 couldn't he ?
