  1. Question

    Olly from Hertfordshire:

    Sep 30, 21:27

Things have moved on a long way since Johnsons and Bath eh?

How do you think the England team will manage to speed up their thought process at the break down and how will the Northern sides compete with the southern ones as shown by Argentina against Ireland in ruck and maul situations?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Good question Olly. The problem is running into space in the first place instead of running into three or four guys. If we can run into space and get on the front foot, clearing the ruck is a lot easier than running into people and everyone piling on top of each other. We've got to get into the right spaces on the pitch.

  2. Question

    matty from northampton:

Who do you think is playing the best in the england team?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Jason Robinson has been. He was phenomenal against South Africa. Simon Shaw has been very good and so has Matt Stevens and Paul Sackey. So there's a few guys playing some good stuff, which is what we need against Australia!

  3. Question

    David Kirk from Lichfield:

    Sep 29, 22:48

Why do All Black wings head for the posts before they touch down their trys and Paul Sackey just run to the corner and dive over when he could make for the posts before touching down?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

It's a good point! There was a guy chasing him so whether he covered across I'm not so sure. Perhaps he got caught up in the moment but yes, where possible, you want to make it easier for the kicker.

  4. Question

    Karla from Ulster:

    Sep 29, 11:27

What's your opinion on the other three home nations? Think any of them have a chance of getting to the Quarters or the Semis?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Hi Karla. At the start of the tournament I thought all of the home nations had a great chance of making the quarters and Ireland were my dark horses for the title. If someone had told me they wouldn't get out of their group I'd have thought they were mad! Fiji upsetting Wales was also a huge shock but now England, france and Scotland all have a great chance of making the semis.

  5. Question

    sharpe from aston clinton:

    Sep 24, 21:25

Realistically, we won't win the world cup who do you think will hold up the trophy?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Well you never know and we still believe we can do it. But on paper and current form, you'd have to say New Zealand and South Africa are favourites, with Australia close behind.

  6. Question

    gerald k from hounslow:

    Sep 24, 20:49

Do you think england can win the World Cup?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

We went into this tournament believing we could win and we've not changed our minds. Yes, we know it will be tough but we showed against Samoa that we're starting to play more 15 man rugby and playing the way we want to play. It will be tough, but if we get to the quarters, anything is possible.

  7. Question

    Vaughan from Fulham, London:

    Sep 23, 12:24

Hi Catty. I can't help noticing that you touch your ear-lobe every time the camera pans onto you during the national anthem. What's the significance of this? Cheers, Vaughan.

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Well spotted! That's really just a signal to say hello to my family and folks back in South Africa, so it's just a little subtle gesture.

  8. Question

    john thomas from cardiff:

    Sep 22, 18:39

Mike why weren't you good enough to play for your home country of South Africa?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

I hope it's not a question of not being good enough but I ended up coming to England on holiday and started to play from Bath, loved it and just moved on from there! I grew up wanting to play for South Africa for the first 21 years of my life but circumstances change and it didn't work out that way. When the chance came to play for England, it was one I couldn't refuse and I'm grateful for that.
