If you and Jonny don't get knighted after this I'll eat my England shirt.

  4. Question

    ian riley from nottingham:

why are rugby balls numbered one to six

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

There are six match balls and each team is allowed to practice with three before each match. They are labeled and numbered so the sides know that these are the balls on the pitch that they practiced with.

well done what a tense game. I new absoulutely nothing about rugby until a few years ago when my partner explained the game to me and now i am hooked. Its the best sport in the world. Who do you think England will be playing in the final or who do you hope to be playing? GOOD LUCK

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

We now know we're playing South Africa but I wouldn't have cared who it was, to be honest. We're in the final and that's all that matters.

  6. Question

    Hi Mike
me and my dad have a season ticket at London Irish and i was wondering why didn't Shane Gerraghty get in the england team? Many thanks. p.s "come back" London Irish need you!

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Shane was unfortunately injured, which is why he was unavailable for selection. I have no doubt that it won't be long before you see him in an England shirt again!

  7. Question

    mick simpson from nottingham:

    Oct 11, 17:23

Hi Mike; There's been a lot said about the balls not behaving correctly! you tend to do a lot of kicking so I expect you'll give this theory of mine an answer? Apart from the fact that they are all new balls they are I believe the same make & weight as they have always been? I think that when your 're In a modern stadium with say 80,000 supporters In there, couldnt the humidity & all the air being sucked In & out have an Influence on the way It flies? I know this sound weird but could It be so? the very best of luck & I wish you & all the guy's a good game; Mick

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

A lot has been said about the balls in this World Cup but it's the same for both teams. I know that some kickers have complained about the ball and it does seem to have a smaller sweet spot than the ones we're used to. Also, the balls need to be 'kicked in' which is to inflate, practice with, deflate and inflate again for the match. This has happened since the semi-finals but was not the case beforehand and a new ball that's not been 'kicked in' can have a different shape. This is why it would behave differently.

  8. Question

David J Townsend from Bournemouth, Dorset:

    Oct 11, 16:34

You may not like praise, but I have to say that having you in the team gives me hope for England. You are an innovative, thinking player. Well done Mike! I have a question. I am always perplexed, and frustrated, at the needless penalties players, not just England's, give away by putting their hands into a ruck. Do rugby players at your level have to learn the rules? If so, why do they keep on making the same mistakes? Perhaps it's just because they are human. I wish you all the best for Saturday!

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Of course we all know the rules but infringements will always happen in the heat of a big match situation. We gave away a few silly penalties against France and we can't afford that in the final.
