  1. Question

I watched three International games last weekend. All poor, save for the French play. The referres cannot be blamed, BUt what is your considered opinion on the management of the scrum. At any level of game from % down, a referee would be heavily critised by any assessor worth his salt if they refereed the scrum as poorly as these 'international'referees did last weekend. Your views please.

  2. Question

    Nikki from England:

What happen to the team talk at half time, everybody seems to switch off when we're up, make a few replacements and the whole side goes to piece's, i think Brian Moore should give the team talk.Another point, when will Ref's pick up on the ball going into the 2nd row at a scrum, all sides seem guilty of this.Final note, well done Wales, you showed true grit, keep it up.

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

I don't know what happened with the team talk, but Italy obviously had a good one! They were obviously told by Nick Mallet at half time to go out and enjoy themselves, throw the ball about, run from deep and hold on to the ball. England didn't seem to have that same mentality.

  3. Question

    Gareth from Newport:

You know what made my day more than the result itself???..

The look on jeremy guscott's face in the studio after the match PRICELESS :)

"Thank you Mr guscott, You made my year :P

  4. Question

    Paul from Cardiff:

    Feb 5, 16:25

Mike - with Johnny having a bit of a wobbly game against Wales (at least in the last half), question marks now hang over the no.10 shirt, but should they? Isn't one of the problems of the English game that they can't settle a squad because no room is being given to build, no mistakes are tolerated without someone losing their place? I think if Cipriani is the current first choice he should have started, to play him now looks like punishment to Johnny. But what say you?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

I thought Jonny controlled the game better than against Wales Paul. On the Jonny v Cipriani debate, you have to look at the bigger picture of why a player has had a bad game and not single out the player himself. If Jonny gets good attacking ball on the front foot, he will make things happen and bring the backs into the game. But no 9 or 10 can do that without the ball and the pack in the second half did not give Jonny that opportunity. Danny is class and the form Premiership player and I actually would have played him at 15 against Wales but not instead of Jonny.

  5. Question

    Sandy Holmes from Bradford:

    Feb 5, 13:30

What happened Mike, England do this too much it's so annoying, they played brilliant in the first half, its been commented on before about this. England seem to relax too much when they are winning and don't keep up to what they were doing in the first half, they seemed a completely different team in the 2nd half, they need a good kick up the back side and don't relax at all, i thought we were there to win?

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

I think you're right Sandy. At any time at any level, you do not relax even if you’re in a commanding position. As a group of players they will know that. You just don’t do it. You have to be ruthless. If you’re 20-6 up, you make sure you’re the next team to score and keep that scoreboard ticking over. We didn’t even seem to get in their 22 in the second half! What the Italians also did well was to throw it around a bit more in the second half. Every time we turned over ball we ended up kicking the thing away. It was hard to understand why we didn’t just keep the ball in hand.

  6. Question

    pugrugby from wirral:

thanks for your answer the games we must win must be france and italy . as all games are important these games will give the the team the boost to develop next year what do you think.

  7. Question

    David from Swansea:

    Feb 5, 08:13

I can't belive that the so called citing comissioners did not cite God (Jonny wilkinson)and more unbilivable Henderson of Scotland. What do you think Mike.

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Was it a real malicious head butt? Was Jonny's deliberate? Jonny's not that kind of person and he always flies into tackles as we know. But you do ask the question in the recent Heineken Cup game against Treviso a guy got banned for stamping for 8 weeks and it wasn't even on someone's head, it was just standing on someone. There's no consistency from the unions and the erc and there needs to be. if it is malicious and you can see that, fair enough. I don't think those incidents were.

  8. Question

    jeremy from swansea:

    Feb 4, 21:54

hi mike, do you think that mike pgilips has done enough to hang on to the 9 shirt over dwayne peel

    Answer

    Mike Catt:

Hi Jeremy. I really like the mentality that Gatland has. He has come in and given mike Philips the opportunity and they've done well and it's the same with Stephen Jones and Hooky. When you've got such good players on the bench as well as starting the game, you're in the driving seat. Having Peel and Jones to come off the page is massive. Whoever they go with doesn't matter too much. It's like Bracken and Dawson, Grayson and Wilkinson or greenwood and myself. if you have that competition for places, believe me the boys will perform. A nice headache to have!
