Eddie Irvine F1 Q&A

Eddie Irvine F1 Q&A

Put your questions to former F1 star Eddie Irvine during every round of the 2008 FIA F1 World Championship.

Eddie will endeavour to answer as many of the best selected questions after every race.

  1. Question

    Alex from Shoreham:

    Jul 24, 18:16

what was your most memorable race?

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

Different races for various reasons. One of the best races I ever drove was in Hungary but the car broke down. One of my great races was my last podium with Jaguar where I did a very good qualifying and first stint and just cruised to the finish. Fron that point of view it was not that satisfying but it was the best result we could have got. And to get on the podium at Monza with Ferrari it was a Ferrari 1-2-3 for them as they still saw me as a Ferrari driver. Then there was my debut at Suzuka which was great fun. I finished sixth but would have finished fourth but for a pit stop problem.

  2. Question

your wiev on Scott Speed - was he just in wrong place @ wrong time or jus wasn't cappable to be in f 1 ? @ what about Seb Bourdais ? i hoped to see off them better . since approx '03 i have not any real favourite driver in f 1 , but those two i wanted to see do better

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

Scott Speed was not good enough, end of story and Bourdais so far does not seem to be good enough either. These guys do well in America because the cars there need a completely different talent from an F1 car. They are much more like sports cars. There are no characteristics in common with an F1 car.

Hi Eddie . hopefully you're well 'n' happy. Tell me this - do you know who ''the Stig'' is, that lad in top gear, they're rumors here if it's you???

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

I used to know who the Stig was but I don’t know who the new Stig is. It’s a very well kept secret and I have to say it’s not something I want to find out. I think it’s better that you don’t know. It’s better you still believe in Santa I guess!

  4. Question

    gary richardson from west yorkshire:

hi eddie do you think Martin Brundle is jealous of Nigel Mansells success as he never mentions him unlike James Allen?
ps only 1 nigel mansell el leone the only "true" racer this country as ever produced since jimmy clark! Senna, Prost especially your cheating ex team mate Schumacher not fit to wipe red 5"s arse. You werent bad Eddie but like Rubens you all played second fiddle to the bad losing cheat

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

Any driver would be jealous of Mansell’s success. He had a great career but I don’t necessarily rate him as a great driver. He got in good cars, he was very aggressive and very entertaining but is he a better driver than Martin Brundle? I would probably say not. Life’s not fair but there we go!

  5. Question

    james ritchie from west yorkshire:

eddie im going to monza in september where is the best place to watch the race from? ps most parabolica seats sold out

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

Monza is not a great spectator circuit. You go there because of the Tifosi. There’s nowhere really that stands out but if I was going to watch anywhere I would watch the fast chicane before the Parabolica. Ascari I think. The Monza Park is a stunning setting though and you must stay in Milan. The food and the clubs are great.

  6. Question

    Jimmy from Manchester:

Hey big man. What are the best nightclubs you've ever been to and what's your favorite tipple? Love the columns.

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

I think the Caves du Roy in St Tropez is the best nightclub in the world but Hollywood in Milan and Sunday night in Amber Lounge in Monaco are also great. My favourite drink is Long Island Ice Tea.

  7. Question

Tomas from A Swede in London:

Hi Eddie. Why did you change your helmet design when you joined Jaguar Racing?

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

I was just fed up with the orange one because I'd had it for so many years and I kind of liked the idea of the leopard print.

  8. Question
