Eddie Irvine F1 Q&A

Eddie Irvine F1 Q&A

Put your questions to former F1 star Eddie Irvine during every round of the 2008 FIA F1 World Championship.

Eddie will endeavour to answer as many of the best selected questions after every race.

  1. Question

    paul loveridge from sittingbourne kent:

    Aug 25, 11:45

what was your most ennjoyable team you raced for and was it hard to play second fiddle to shumacher.

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

Ferrari. They weren't there for fun and were super-professional. It was nice to work for such a professional team. Jordan were pretty good because they were a young team trying really hard and Jaguar Racing was just a mess until the last five or six races. Michael was the best driver, simple as that.

  2. Question

    Neil Smith from Dudley:

    Aug 17, 10:49

can lewis overtake any one without pushing them off the track, if you had done it that way you would have been gutted

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

I disagree. I've yet to see him pull a bad overtaking manouevre. I think he's the best overtaker since Senna.

  3. Question

    mat from paisley:

    Aug 6, 20:48

have you ever dozed off or felt sleepy during a race.

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

NO! How can you feel sleepy in an F1 car unless you are on drugs or something!

  4. Question

    Daina from Liverpool:

    Aug 3, 19:58

    Hi Eddie,
Really missing u in F1.U where and still are great!Didn't have a chance 2 meet u,but I know I will...
1 question: Have seen a movie 'Prince& me' where u played yourself. How is ur actor career going?
    Daina xx

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

I just did that one movie and I have to say it was fun to do once and I had a fling with my co-star, which was good, but apart from that it was very boring. There was a lot of hanging around doing nothing and that just wasn't for me!

  5. Question

    heather simmons from mansfield:

    Aug 1, 19:41

hi Eddie can please tell me why f1 is revolving around Lewis as it is so boring and i find it very rude that they only interview him after the races

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

I think people talk about Lewis more because he is a superstar and we need superstars. We need another superstar in a car that can challenge him and that's what we are missing this year. Last year we had it with Alonso and that's why we had such a great fight lik with Senna and Prost and Schumacher and Hakkinen. We are missing a challenger and hopefully there will be a few changes at the top, be it at Ferrari or if Toyota come through. It would be great if Kubica or Alonso were in a Ferrari next year. We need that spice.

  6. Question

    Derek Peakman from Scotland:

I used to enjoy your 'sparring' with DC in the media. Was there ever any real animosity or was it all tounge in cheek?

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

I always thought it was tongue in cheek but he got upset a few times. But I had a beer with DC the other night in St. Tropez which was good. Hhe was just too easy to wind up so i enjoyed that!

  7. Question

    Richard Hadley from Malaga Spain,:

    Jul 29, 18:10

Eddie, now that you are not racing any more you can say what you like. Not that it stopped you when you were racing (ha ha). Who was the worst person you ever met that was involved in F1 and why.

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

I think to really dislike someone you have to care and I really didn't care! I don't thiink there was anyone I disliked. I just had no real strong feelings for any of them really so I mainly ignored them and got on with my own business!

  8. Question

Mr F J FORD from NOTTINGHAM:

    Jul 27, 22:18

WITH THE 2008 FI CARS WHAT WOULD YOU RATE THE PERCENTAGE OF DRIVER ABILITY AND FITNESS TO WIN RACES AGAINST THE HIGH TECH PERFORMANCE AND TEAM SUPPORT WE SEE TODAY.

    Answer

    Eddie Irvine:

It's always the driver. Okay, certain characteristics suit certain drivers better than others but the really great drivers handle whatever is thrown at them. Traction control makes very little difference in the dry. The whole trick to driving an F1 car is the brakes and the turn-in and there is nothing technical been invented to help with that yet.
