Do you think Lewis can beat Michaels record of 7 world championships?
Eddie Irvine:
Yes I do. I think he will go on to win three, four, five or more titles because he's only 23 and it's quite possible he will beat Michael Schumacher's record. You have to remember that Michael was at Ferrari four or five years before he won the championship. He could quite easily have gone to Williams and cleaned up, so he could have won ten or eleven! Lewis is already in the best car so if he stays there and the car stays competitive, he should be winning every year because he's the best driver. But ultimately, he should go to Ferrari because that's where he should be driving.

When two team mates swap positions like Kimi did with Massa at the last race - should they not be penalised.
If you look at the replay, Kimi lifts off. Significantly. It was so blatant. Whereas a similar incident earlier in the season with Hamilton and his team mate, Hamilton did it without the Kovi lifting off at all.
Eddie Irvine:
It cerrainly looked like a case of team orders to me Matt! We all know that team orders are banned and apparently this was just charity on the part of Kimi because there is now way Massa could have caught Raikkonen. But that's the way the rules are interpreted now and there were no orders over the radio but I think we all know what happened here.
With the FIA jumping on McLaren for sneezing in the wrong direction and everything else, what are the chance of the FIA investigating an infringement of the rules with another team - namely Ferrari.

Hi Eddie,
Hope you are well?
I just wanted to see what your thoughts are on the proposed cost cutting solutions for F1 in the future and more specifically your thoughts on every team having the same engine ? - do you think it will work ?
Many thanks - hope to hear from you
Ian
Eddie Irvine:
They should keep the rules the same for a prolonged period and give the smaller teams the chance to catch up, which will also make the racing better. But costs need to come down because the financial situation is going to get worse before it gets better. Car manufacturers and car sales are really suffering at the moment. It doesn’t make sense to spend £300 million on two cars going around a track every year when you are laying people off left, right and centre!

Hi Eddie,
Glad to hear from you (hopefully :)) as I started watching F1 in 96 and I always preferred you over MSC as you had to be the most unluckiest person ever that season with the faulty car and then when you did survive that you got taken out.
Q. Do you think jumping into one of the best cars can be bad for a driver or good? as people like Alonso had to work out of a minardi for a year and work hard to get into a top car and earn his rights.
Eddie Irvine:
No I don't think so. If you look at Lewis, he was in the right place at the right time and his performances in the junior Formulae made him stand out as an exceptional driver anyway so it made sense to put him in a good car.

Hi Eddie
What would be your thouhts of going back in time and giving a point for fastest lap, surely it would create some more interest i bet Kimi would
Eddie Irvine:
No because it would be too easy to get points by just putting new tyres on and reeling off a few quick laps. It would only be relevant if there was no refuelling and no pit stops. Otherwise it would be too easy to engineer.

What is your view of the decission to deduct 25 secs from Sebastien Bourdais after his 'incident' with Massa? I thought it was outrageous, as far as I could see he did nothing wrong! Would appreciate your thoughts x
Eddie Irvine:
I totally agree. I thought Bourdais did absolutely nothing wrong and the FIA invented something just to make the championship more interesting.

Hi Eddie
Do you think the FIA is anti Lewis Hamilton?
Eddie Irvine:
Not neccessarily anti Lewis but I would say they are anti McLaren.
