The great tradition of British Sporting Disasters gained another member with England's sorry capitulation to South Africa at the Cricket World Cup. From tennis matches where certain victory became defeat, to limp penalty shoot-out woe - English sports hopefuls (and occasionally the other Brits) can be counted on to bottle it. Tell us your most memorable British sporting disasters.
MAN UNITED, NEED I SAY MORE
Although a minority sport (there are those who would not call it a sport) I would have to add Ben Pridmore's performance in the 2007 World Memory Championships. He was in the lead going into the final round and the title was there for the taking. The last discipline was speed cards in which Pridmore a few weeks before smashed the world record out of sight, exploits at which gained a fair amount of coverage in newspapers and on tv. His main rival for the world title, Germany's Gunther Karsten, was much weaker at the speed cards discpline but it was Karsten who ended up walking away with the title.
Great site. So many useful info.
Really perfect!!! I'll bookmark!
Eddie the Eagle....what a star, he never was going to win anything, we never expected him to win anything and he didn't dissapoint!
Full respect to the man who flew our flag with such pride and charisma whilst full filling his ambitions.
Whats more, our modern day so called sports men should take a leaf out of his book and enter into the spirit of the sport, and not a way of making extortionate amounts of money!
