John Terry - the the butt of internet jokes for his tears and shanked Champions League penalty - was chosen as Fabio Capello's captain for the friendly against USA at Wembley.
However, he is by no means the only candidate for the role. Rio Ferdinand was previously thought to be the preferred choice of 'Don Fabio' , while Steven Gerrard has also skippered the side under Capello. And Aston Villa's Gareth Barry is expected to wear the armband for the first time against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
What is better - Terry's blood and thunder approach or Gerrard's 'laissez-faire' approach? Who do you think is the best man for the captain's role? Have your say HERE.
To Jem from Hampshire. What does being scruffy, tattoed and not being able to speak properly got to do with playing football.David Beckham is a lot more understandable than Steven Gerrard. That is not meant to reflect on Steven Gerrards ability to play football as I agree that he is the man for the job as David Beckhan is no longer the player that he once was although still a top class player.
becks should be captain lets face it without him we couldnt even get to europe. i hope steve maclaren regrets dropping him now.
jon terry captain, let gerrard have a free role
Sreiously, I reckon it should be Steven Gerrard.
Stevie G is a great team player, great attitude, and a fantastic all-rounder.
Good leader too, as he leads by example.
Yup yup
Ali G's Nan. Innit ?
She could probably do a better job of it.
Seriously though, would like to see Becks back as Captain of the national team. He should never have been made to resign, he tried his best last time.
Get us an English Manager as well. please.
About time, I don't like the way FA bigWigs make it seem like we don't have the Manager here to captain our own side.
We have the minerals!
Give the England job to Harry Redknapp, if he gets over the recent alleged scandal. He is an excellent Manager.
I want an English Manager to be English-born!
