John Terry - the the butt of internet jokes for his tears and shanked Champions League penalty - was chosen as Fabio Capello's captain for the friendly against USA at Wembley.
However, he is by no means the only candidate for the role. Rio Ferdinand was previously thought to be the preferred choice of 'Don Fabio' , while Steven Gerrard has also skippered the side under Capello. And Aston Villa's Gareth Barry is expected to wear the armband for the first time against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
What is better - Terry's blood and thunder approach or Gerrard's 'laissez-faire' approach? Who do you think is the best man for the captain's role? Have your say HERE.
James Mcfadden
Anyone who can call heads or tails. What else do they do? Mind you that rules out more than half the players
alex ferguson at least he would control the refs
Ferdi, without a doubt and failing that it should be any northern player in the team.
Who would want to Captain a team of which possible one or two make some sort of mumbling attempt at singing the National Anthem. The Man U contingent are the worst. They should take a leaf from some International Rugby teams (ours included) big men with big hearts showing tearful eyes at the singing of their anthems now that is what's meant by being proud to pull on your national teams shirt. All our footballers are interested in is how big is the cheque. And the FA should make a stand and refuse to play anyone who doesn't at least try to sing the anthem its about PRIDE not cash.
