Ronaldo: "I hope to complete my dream."

Ronaldo:

Whatever could He mean?

Now that Portugal have been eliminated from Euro 2008, the eyes and ears of the football world - at least in England and Spain - are locked into waiting for Cristiano Ronaldo's decision as to where he will be playing next season - Manchester or Madrid.

United insist he is 'not for sale', but the twinkle-toed 23-year-old says "Everybody knows what I want but things don't only depend on me."

. Looking at the evidence, it's hard to see what United can do to keep him at Old Trafford. Is it the right decision for Ronaldo? And will United suffer if, as expected, he is no longer a Red next season? HAVE YOUR SAY.

In short term united may struggle but if Ronaldo no longer wishes to play for united it is unlikely we will get a decent game out of him
So lets get as much as we can for him, and send him on his way wih thanks for the memories

Mike, I know what you're saying mate and to a certain extent I agree, although nowadays, if a club treated its player in the way you have suggested up there, then the player would have a good reason for not honouring/breaching his contract.
He could argue for restraint of trade or cite constructive dismissal if the manager continues to keep him on the bench or in the reserves, and with the way things are in the European courts the player would probably be able to argue a successful case and be allowed to void his contract and move on.
With players like Ronaldo (who had quite a number of years left on his contract), the club(s) should have the power to make them stick to any contract they sign.
If a club wants to sell a player and the player chooses not to move but wishes to stay and 'fight for their place', then 99.9 times out of 100 the players wishes are respected.
Why can't a clubs wishes be respected when they want to keep hold of a prized asset?
All the power is with the players and it's wrong.
