Professor Ralph Thornly-Jenkins gives us his views on the Ronaldo saga.
Will Ron do one, one wonders? One sincerely hopes so.
Bet on where Ronaldo will end up
All the talk in Manchester is about one man, the Portugeezer who almost single handedly guided United to last season’s double.
As Sir Kevin Keegan correctly observed the Premier League is a four-way quarrel between United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. The rest of the clubs are there just to make up the numbers, or in Derby’s case to improve goal difference.
United know just how important Ronaldo is to them, last term he scored an incredible 42 goals in all competitions from a midfield berth. United’s next best was Tevez’s tally of 19 and then Rooney’s total of 18. Elsewhere United’s combined tally from all quarters comes to a paltry 29 – and that’s in all competitions not just the Premier League.
The winker wants to wander off and frankly I don’t blame the boy. He’s far too good for the Premier League, so often erroneously described as the ‘best League in the world.’ What absolute piffle!
Ronaldo wants to play in Spain at some point, that much we know - but when? Sooner rather than later one hopes. Like all great players he wants to test himself against the world’s elite footballers not the overpaid cloggers in the Premier League.
Fergie has said the Glazer team would be prepared to sit Ron in the stands for a season if necessary but in reality that would never happen to any asset worth upwards of £70million, although in saying that I think I do have an early Van Gogh in the loft somewhere.
Even Goldenballs himself has entered the debate urging Ronaldo not to make the same mistakes as he has, a possible reference to that repulsive tattoo on the back of his neck perhaps.
Not only should Ron go I hereby propose David Nugent should be signed as his replacement to make the competition more open for each and all next season.
What do you think?
Have your say on the United forum
Mind games invented by a greedy and manipulative 'agent' - for goodness sake get rid of agents and bring this game into some sort of sense. No wonder Fergie is furious - but he shouldn't take it out on another club - behind this there is a low-life little turd called an agent! No, he shouldn't go - a lot of people would take a very dim view of this after what MU have hyped him up and invested in him!
he should stay for one more season
I do not believe Ronaldo will go as he's at a club that are winning trophies, The media need to get their facts right before printing rubbish.
Ronaldo is the best player in the preimership and i hope he carry's on playing for united and scores more goals next season. I am a united fan
Real Madrid no class, trying to bully their way to Uniteds prized asset, watch the Glazers show how good they are for United and show Madrid how they ain't getting Ronnie.
Why should he go he is the best player at the best club in the world, typical british media trying make news out of non factual events how many times does the boy have to say he wants to stay.......we won it three time we won it three tiiiimes !!!!!!!!!!!!!
