Will Ron do one?

Will Ron do one?

Professor Ralph Thornly-Jenkins gives us his views on the Ronaldo saga.

Will Ron do one, one wonders? One sincerely hopes so.

Bet on where Ronaldo will end up

All the talk in Manchester is about one man, the Portugeezer who almost single handedly guided United to last season’s double.

As Sir Kevin Keegan correctly observed the Premier League is a four-way quarrel between United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. The rest of the clubs are there just to make up the numbers, or in Derby’s case to improve goal difference.

United know just how important Ronaldo is to them, last term he scored an incredible 42 goals in all competitions from a midfield berth. United’s next best was Tevez’s tally of 19 and then Rooney’s total of 18. Elsewhere United’s combined tally from all quarters comes to a paltry 29 – and that’s in all competitions not just the Premier League.

The winker wants to wander off and frankly I don’t blame the boy. He’s far too good for the Premier League, so often erroneously described as the ‘best League in the world.’ What absolute piffle!

Ronaldo wants to play in Spain at some point, that much we know - but when? Sooner rather than later one hopes. Like all great players he wants to test himself against the world’s elite footballers not the overpaid cloggers in the Premier League.

Fergie has said the Glazer team would be prepared to sit Ron in the stands for a season if necessary but in reality that would never happen to any asset worth upwards of £70million, although in saying that I think I do have an early Van Gogh in the loft somewhere.

Even Goldenballs himself has entered the debate urging Ronaldo not to make the same mistakes as he has, a possible reference to that repulsive tattoo on the back of his neck perhaps.

Not only should Ron go I hereby propose David Nugent should be signed as his replacement to make the competition more open for each and all next season.

Well " Professor " how can you honestly sit there and say that the English top flight is not the best league in the world ? Which league is the top grossing one on a global scale ? Which other leagues can entice the best young talent in the world ? The Itallian league is full of washed up old timers, the Spanish league has its stars but they are few and far between, Germany is full of never gonna be's, Holland is like an academy these days no one wants to play there once they establish themselves. France is a joke 1 team has won what is it 7 straight league titles ? Guess there are some things that books just can't teach you " Professor ". Ronaldo may or may not go it all comes down to how tough Manchester United want to make it for him to leave, Not For Sale should be plenty as he signed a contract extension last season, the ball is in Man Utd's court. What you can guarentee is that if he does go he will demolish the entire league by himself as he won't have tought tacklers over there like Jamie Carragher, John Terry, Ricardo Carvallho and Phil Jagielka, more improtantly he won't have Ashley Cole keeping him in his pocket everytime they meet. What he will have are ref's gullable enough to give free kicks everytime he decides he's ran far enough and wants to lie on the green carpet for a while. He isn't stupid he knows he can go to Spain and probably go one better as far as his goal tally is concerned but in England the rough and tumble workmen of the Premier league are going to target him. I'm a Manchester United fan always have been and have seen better players than him leave, yes he is good but Portugal failing to beat an ordinary German team is proof that one man does not make a team, the players at Manchester United make him look as good as he is. Will the other egocentric stars at Madrid be happy to let him hog the limelight as messers Rooney, Tevez, Scholes, Giggs, Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves and Carrick ? Can you honestly see Sneijder giving up free kick duty ? Can you see Van Nistelrooy being happy with 19 goals a season ? Can you see Cannavaro being happy with a right winger that doesn't assist Ramos ? Can you see Ramos being happy at being expsoed ? i'm guessing most of the time your saying no !
