SPURS ARE BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE! Yes, with Wigan and Portsmouth winning, and West Brom winning a point, this leaves Juande Ramos's men the only pointless club in the Premier League (add your own joke here). NB: This writer is a Spurs fan.

16:57 FULL-TIME Everton 0-3 Portsmouth

16:55 FULL-TIME West Ham 4-1 Blackburn.

16:55 FULL-TIME Middlesbrough 2-1 Stoke

16:54 FULL-TIME Hull 0-5 Wigan

16:54 FULL-TIME Bolton 0-0 West Brom

16:50 GOAL! Craig Bellamy makes it 3-1 to West Ham - and the points must surely be theirs. And as if to make sure, Carlton Cole hits a fourth in the final minute - 4-1.

GOA...no it isn't! 16:48 Kevin Davies thinks he's won it for Bolton at home to West Brom but his left-volley is judged to be hit from an offside position. And would you believe it - a minute later he scores again but is offside. Oh dear...

16:43 GOAL! Stoke's resistance has faltered right at the end... Boro make it 2-1 thanks to Tuncay's strike after Sorensen had kept out Didier Digard's long-range effort.

16:41 GOAL! And now it's five! Zaki's second makes it a total jod bone for Wigan and a tough lesson for Phil Brown's men.

16:39 GOAL! Wigan are running riot at Hull - it's like a rugby score! 4-0, with a corking strike from Emile Ivanhoe Heskey.

16:33 GOAL! Ten-man Stoke HAVE EQUALISED! And after Boro missed a penalty a few minutes ago. Justin Hoyte, on his debut for Boro, has put through his own net under pressure from Dave Kitson. And Jermain Defoe has made it 3-0 for Pompey at Goodison - his 100th goal in League football.

16:26 GOAL! Amir Zaki scores for Wigan - and at 0-3 it's curtains for Hull. Not a good day for Humberside sports fans, with Rugby League's Challenge Cup Final being lost to St Helens.

ANOTHER PENALTY MISS! This time at Middlesbrough, where winger Stewart Downing crashed his spot-kick against the bar rather than put the match very probably beyond Stoke.

16:21 GOAL! Wolves 5-1 up at home to Forest thanks to Michael Kightly - and revitalised Chester now 4-0 up on Barnet with three goals in six minutes.

PENALTY SAVES! NOT ONE BUT TWO! By England keepers as well! Robert Green gets down to stop Jason Roberts equalising for Blackburn at Upton Park, and David James has prevented Everton from pulling a goal back at home to Portsmouth by beating out Yakubu's decently struck pen. Games(s) on!

Half-time around the country - and time to take a breather. Pompey and Wigan look good for wins, while Paul Ince's return to Upton Park is not quite going to plan.

Joy at the Deva Stadium if Chester can hang on to their 1-0 half-time lead at home to Barnet, as they hadn't even found the net this season until today after having been humped 6-0 on day one.

15:42 GOAL! Pompey seem to have found their scoring touch now - Glen Johnson has put them 2-0 up at Everton after a sweet one-two with Jermain Defoe.

15:38 GOAL! Today is going from bad to worse for Stoke - now 1-0 down at Boro thanks to an Afonso Alves goal.

15:37 OFF! First Premier red of the day! And it's Amdy Faye of those big bruisers Stoke - leaving them down to ten men at Middlesbrough.

15:35 GOAL! And as if by way of response to Alan Plank, news in that Bristol Rovers have gone 2-1 up at lovable Leeds thanks to Daryl Duffy.

Alan Plank from Hammersmith says: "Premiership pah! What about the real leagues?" Well Alan, we do our best with what we have – for all the scores n stats you want you can find them HERE

15:23 GOAL! Loads of action at Upton Park - West Ham are now 2-1 up after a goal each in a minute, with a scrambled goal from Dean Ashton putting them 2-0 up before Jason Roberts pulled one back for the ever-popular Paul Ince's men.

15:17 GOAL! Lower league fans, look now - Port Vale's Marc Richards has bagged his fourth of the season to help his side to an early lead against Bournemouth - which has made my boss Rob a lot cheerier.

15:13 GOAL! West Ham take the lead at home to Blackburn thanks to Callum Davenport, and Luis Valencia has doubled Wigan's lead at Hull.

15:10 GOAL! Portsmouth are off the mark for the season - Jermain Defoe has given them the lead at Everton.

It’s also FA Cup day today – yes, the long-awaited Pre-qualifying round. We’re following one match in particular in our ROAD TO WEMBLEY feature – find out who we’re following here.

15:05 GOAL! Wigan have scored the Premier League's first goal of the day... well actually it's an own goal by Hull's Sam Ricketts, but Latics fans won't care - they're in the lead.

Phil Shuntley from Marlow asks: "Is Saha playing for Everton? To be honest Phil, his fitness record is such I’d be surprised if he made it up the steps of the team bus. But no, he isn’t in the squad for today....

Don't forget that the Carling Cup third round draw was made earlier this afternoon - the time when the big boys enter the competition. Holders Tottenham go to Newcastle, while Man Utd host Middlesbrough and minnows Liverpool will face the mighty Crewe.

Blackpool have just beaten Southampton at St Mary's in today's early fixture - a Ben Burgess penalty on the stroke of half-time enough to overcome Jan Poortvliet's young side.

Stoke lose the Beast
Preston have signed Stoke striker Jon Parkin for a fee of around £500,000. He could play in today's game against Charlton. Stoke are also unchanged for their game against Middlesbrough.

Hull new boy
Hull have signed defender Paul McShane on a season-long loan from Sunderland, the Barclays Premier League newcomers have announced on their website. Talking about Hull.. 39 year-old Dean Windass could make his first Premier League start today!

Ince back at Upton Park
Paul Ince will returning to West Ham as manager of Blackburn Rovers. What sort of response will he get? What sort of response should he get? Have your say below.

Brett from South West you aint got a clue about football ,you cant get a goal at every freekick you take & your not going to get a goal at every corner,i dont know where you've been watching football cos the way you go on we should win every game and score with every kick, im sure you have never kicked a ball in your life or you would'nt have written what you did

as long as we have players like Lampard playing with no heart ,or skill on that show, we'll never get anywhere in a game that you see other teams busting a gut with pride to wear the shirt of there country i know i would

I have read most of the comments with interest and their appears to be several points that are repeated. I agree that Lampard and Gerrard are not good together and never have been. I also think Gerrard should be caprtain as he motivates by example with a free role. A comment was made about one of the neville brothers playing for England. Come on lets be realistic. I recall on at least 3 occassions one of the Neville brothers was responsible for England losing a match due to incompetence and crass stupidity late in game.. We do not need anymore of that.
Rio Ferdinand as captain don't make me laugh. He is only good with MU as he has a host of good players around him. Put him in the Spanish or Italian league and he would be tied in knots. He has long legs but his reading of the game is pathetic. The same goes for Lampard how would he be rated playing in the a lower division without all the million pounds of talent around him. Not well I am certain. David Beckham. I have never rated him. He cannot dribble he has never had pace., his tackles usually end up in giving away a free kick. Admittedly he can cross a ball (sometimes). count the number of crosses he makes in a game and look at the statistics of succesful passes. Are people telling me there is no English player in the whole of the uk who cannot pass the ball better or more succesfully. Remember the game against Greece he needed 8 attempts at free kicks before he finally put one in the net. Not a particularly good precentage. I remember when he took Johny Wilkinson with him to practice free kicks. Beckham admitted JW was better than him and scored more than he did. --speaks volumes.
Why is there such a stink about a left footed player -News Flash use the outside of your right foot. This is not a revolutionary new concept. I find it incredible that all footballers whether they favour one foot or the other cannot use both. If they do not they should be taught and trained to do so. Become a balanced palyer.
If statistics were to be used again I doubt if we would find that the ball miraculously presents itself on our favourite foot everytime. It is pathetic. Every time I watch an England game I say that's it I will never watch them again. Perhaps I am a masochist and enjoy the frustration, anger, stress and ill feeling after watching yet another debacle. I am certain each and everone of us knows of someone adn probably including most ourselves who are not a so called professionals who could play better than the clowns on display yesterday.
It is a joke a sad, sad joke. And we the fans are the unfortunate recipients. Yet again let down, yet again miffed at tactics, yet again we end up after another England farcical display, debating wages, positions, passing , control, passion, pride, motivation, finishing, not creating chances, not finding openings, that killer pass, movement of the ball, psycholigical aspects.the list goes. I only wish that someone in the hierarchy would stand up and listen and do something about it we cannot all be wrong.

Looks like we have swapped one foreign clown for another with a bigger one in between. When is the FA going to realise that football played in England is different than it is played on the continent and that English players respond to their managers differently. Surely we have got at least one English manager capable of taking over the team and letting them play the English way.
