Sepp Blatter is confident that the number of foreign players in a club side can be reduced to seven in time for the 2010-11 season.
The Fifa president pointed to the Premier League's dominance in this season's Champions League as a reason why his organisation must implement the idea, despite legal concerns from the EU and Uefa president Michel Platini.
Stressing that Fifa would proceed "within the limits of the law", Blatter said: "It is to make sure that there is better balance in the competitions and not only three or four teams in a league of 18 or 20 are fighting to be the champion and all the others are just there to not be relegated."
Do you agree with this move?
As Arsne Weger said -wouldn't you rather watch an attractive playing clubside than the dreary national team. The foreign imports make the premiership what it is today playing some fantastic technical football. The english players either have to get where the foreigners are or you will dilute the qualty of our club sides and go back to the days when we never had an english side anywhere near the finals of the greatest competition for club sides
It means promoted teams will have a better chance of survival, so yes a very good thing.
A double edged sword. Yes, it will help us build a better national team but will the standard of the Premier League drop as a result?
